GV 1.6 Engine swop was created by Cider
Hi All
As there`s very little info on the 1.6 Grand Vitara engine swop hopefully this will point anyone in the right direction
First start with one of these
one thing you`ll not have to do is to mess about with the oil pick up as the oil sump is the correct shape
same as the one on the jimny
The GV engine came with a crank sensor as standard but as I`m running a hard top I didn`t need it "Snip"
The Gv engine came with the correct 11 point cam pick up for the hard top so no cam swop needed
just below the cam pick up you`ll need to swop the heater pipe input/output replace with the blanking plate on your jimnys head
What I was going to do was to use the GV inlet manifold but as you can see its a lot taller then the jimnys
plus the gv engine is around 3cm taller to "might have problems fitting it in unless you`ve got a body lift"
And the idle control is different
I did mount a jimny one to it tho
Bits that need to be swopped over form your jimny engine
Alternator bracket
Power steering pump bracket
power steering belt adjuster "you`ll need to extend this as the mounting point are out"
Water outlet behind the pump as the GV use 32mm hoses and the jimny 30mm "new mounting bracket needs to be made"
Driver side engine mount will need to be either modified or remade as with the inlet manifold surport bracket got mine ready made from Rik email:waterbabies4x4@hotmail.co.uk number is 07587940297
Passenger mount is ok
Replace the GV flywheel with the Jimnys and the clutch
Used both inlet and exhaust manifolds from the jimny
I used a SJ to vitara 1.6 engine conversion plate " abit of cutting to fit the clutch cable"
I Got my conversion plate from Rik email:waterbabies4x4@hotmail.co.uk number is 07587940297 Very Helpful
and a great service
Found a SJ Skinny starter also can be found on 8v vits Bosch 001-112-032
I managed to get hold of a set of Baleno green injectors
longer fuel in and return pipes
longer power steering belt "I used 4PK868"
Finished and in the car
There`s plenty of info on the
baleno engine swop which is a great help. There`s a very good link to a Spanish site form the member gus2000
Well worth a read if your going to tackle an1.6 engine conversion
Good luck
Cheers
Pete

Today I thought it`s worth a go in fitting the GV injectors even tho I`d fitted green baleno ones
Seems to fit ok on the jimny fuel rail and into the jimny inlet manifold without any modifciations
Turned the key and we have power with no leaks

Going to leave them in for a bit to see how it runs
GV 1.6 injectors are Bosch INP 770 77000XG "numbers taken from the body of the injector"
Cheers
