GeorgeC wrote: I have vision issues with some car windscreens, my Chev Aveo is a problem, so my son has suggested a Jimny.

The best choice through my life was a Citroen 2CV, it has lots of flat glass and one can see all the corners, but no longer made.

So, questions for the forum:
Where is the Right Hand Drive 2019 Jimny built? (a VIN would help here)
Where is the windscreen made? (A DOT number would help were)
Where is the windscreen data located, left or right? (looking from the interior)

I know a visit to a showroom would answer all these questions, however there none of the new model due in Perth before February.

Also any feedback from other low vision drivers as to the suitability of this car would be a great help.

cheers George

All of the 2019 Jimny's are currently made in Japan.
Windscreen is made in Japan.
Windscreen data is on the left.

May I ask, is it so that flat windscreens help you?

And when it comes to data, would a HUD help you?

I can try snap some photos in the car, and without having a very clear idea of your sight-challenges I would say the Jimny offers great visibility.

It is taller so naturally offers a more commanding view of the road. The windscreen is near vertical and flat, as are all the other windows. Being so boxy means you have a very clear idea of where the corners and bumpers are, and if your sight allows you to use wing-mirrors or you opt for a reverse camera you should havr absolutely no issues.

TaterTot: Yes the flatter the better, the 2CV was the best car for me, however I sold it around 1990. The data I seek is the DOT number in the bottom corner of the windscreen, near the VIN number. I don't know what a HUD is.

Ahh. I was thinking you wanted to see data as in speed, rpm, and whatever else is in the dash. That's why I asked about the HUD. Head-Up Display, so you can get it projected up on the windshield. Like this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Head-up_display#/m...e:Hud_on_the_cat.jpg

No one will insure a car with less than 3 ncap stars? That's obscene! If I were Suzuki I would be pull from the market on point of principal. Insurance companies are fundamentally corrupt and should be held to account!

Actually the more I think about it the more I want to take issue with the rep giving you a list of approved cars to choose from. The better and more appropriate response would have been a list of the insurance companies prepared to offer cover of your choice of car. It's a customer service industry after all.

So how do people insure the previous range of Jimny's? They don't even have an NCAP rating.

Complete tripe from the insurance company. If that were true, every single Fiat Panda would now be insured. Also, the new Jeep Wrangler would be uninsurable according to them.

Cars like the Dacia Duster received low NCAP ratingss not as a result of them falling to pieces if they hit a rabbit sitting in the road, but because of other factors based on equipment levels - such as traction control ABS or lack of side-airbags etc
