Instead of replacing the factory Clarion PS-2685 2-DIN alike music player, it is quite possible (and relatively cheap) to significantly expand its capabilities:
 +
* There is an aftermarket add-on Chinese device [http://www.ycarlink.com/pd_16902_Car-Digital-USB-adapter-for-OEM-Clarion-radio-stereo-Suzuki-Swift-Jimny-GRAND-VITARA-SX4-with-CE-NET-port.htm '''Yatour YT-M06'''], which enables simple and intuitive MP3/WMA playback from an SD card, USB stick etc. directly through the Clarion player.
 +
** Yatour YT-M06 can also be optionally upgraded with a Bluetooth handsfree kit [http://www.ycarlink.com/pd_16665_Yatour-Bluetooth-Module-Kit-YT-BTM-.htm '''Yatour YT-BTM'''], which then works seamlessly with a Clarion player (answering calls, hearing the other speaker on vehicle speakers, ending calls, etc.).
 +
* Yatour YT-M06 has been proven to work quite reliably in practice, in various temperature and humidity conditions.
 +
* It also works quite intuitively - MP3/WMA music files are played in an identical manner like selecting CD tracks on a Clarion CD player.
 +
* Caution when buying: Yatour YT-M06 exists in several editions (for various car brands / factory radio systems).
 +
** The editions which are compatible with Jimnys (Clarion CE-NET radio system) are <font face="Courier">YTM06-CLAR</font> and <font face="Courier">YTM06-SUZ1</font>.
 +
*** Both editions are identical - they are just named differently depending on a seller.

Introduction

Note Icon.pngThe wiki article "Accessories for Jimny (genuine Suzuki)" contains vast info and details on many OEM Jimny accessories, including a dedicated section on various officially compatible multimedia players and corresponding mounting kits (look in the section "Interior infotainment").

Center dash panel removal guide

Whether replacing or upgrading the OEM multimedia player, you will need to remove the center dash panel first.

Quick illustrated guide on how to remove the center dash panel

Someone should incorporate the contents of that guide into this article ...

Installing a 1-DIN aftermarket multimedia player

According to official Suzuki accessories catalogues, apart from a desired 1-DIN multimedia player itself, additional bits and pieces are needed for proper installation. The following below should be valid for any Jimny production year.

If the vehicle already has an (undesired) factory installed radio player:

  • An OEM mounting kit for a single DIN multimedia device, P.N. 990E0-59J55-000;

If the vehicle does not have a factory installed radio:

  • An OEM screw to install a single DIN radio, P.N. 990E0-59J55-SCR;
    • Four pieces are needed;

A suitable wiring connector adapter will most likely be required as well (more details in a dedicated chapter below).

Installing a 2-DIN aftermarket multimedia player

  • As far as it is known, Suzuki has not predicted that anyone would install an aftermarket 2-DIN multimedia player in a pre-2005 Jimny (with original old interior design).
    • Therefore no known official solutions or mounting kits exist for such combination, and it is not known how that endeavor will end up regarding physical and electrical fitment and dash board trim alignment.
      • All this might be wrong - correct if you know better!
  • Installing an aftermarket 2-DIN multimedia player in a post-2005 Jimny (with revised interior design) is definitely and officially achievable.
    • However, the replacement options are a bit complicated / expensive.
      • Reason: The dimensions of the hole in the center console trim in which it sits are not standard, and the wiring connector is not standard.
      • Therefore, if you install some aftermarket 2-DIN device, it will probably fit in the hole, but the trim around it will not be aligned.
        • There will be some empty non-trim space around the device.
      • Also, a wiring connector adapter will most probably be required.
    • Wiring connector adapters and bezels / surrounds (which fill the void around the aftermarket 2-DIN CD players) exist, both genuine ones from Suzuki and aftermarket made ones.
  • Read the wiki article on genuine accessories (linked above) to find out what exact OEM bits and pieces are additionally required (it depends on vehicle edition and if it has previously had a radio player installed from the factory or not).
  • Here is one practical solution.

  • Most Jimnys with revised interior design (produced between 2005 and 2018) have a factory-installed 2-DIN-alike Clarion radio-CD player (typically installed from cca 2005 onwards).
    • That Clarion player can only play audio CDs, and is quite fussy about which ones it accepts.
    • That player fits perfectly in the hole in the center dash board trim because it is not a standard 2-DIN format - it is custom-made for Jimnys.

  • It is possible to install almost any 2-DIN multimedia player in a Jimny with revised interior design (2005/2006-2018), but additional bits and pieces are needed for proper fitment.
  • Here is an installation report from a German guy on installing a Kenwood DDX5015DAB multimedia player.
  • Here is another installation report from a German guy on all the bits and pieces needed when installing an aftermarket 2-DIN multimedia player.

A suitable wiring connector adapter will most likely be required as well (more details in a dedicated chapter below).

Wiring connector adapters for aftermarket multimedia players

  • All Jimnys 3 use a proprietary wiring connector for the multimedia player.
  • Older Jimnys 3 (type 1-2, built from 1998 to approx 2002) use a different connector than newer Jimnys 3 (type 3-12, built from approx 2002 to 2018).

  • Therefore, whichever aftermarket multimedia player is about to be installed (1-DIN or 2-DIN, whichever brand), irrespective of the fact if the vehicle has had or has not had a factory installed multimedia player, a wiring connector adapter from Suzuki's proprietary shape to standard ISO 40487 shape will most likely be required.

Suzuki offers two models of such OEM connector adapters:

  • For Jimnys 3 type 1-2: OEM P.N. 00800-71016-MIC;
  • For Jimnys 3 type 3-12: OEM P.N. 00800-71017-MIC;

Aftermarket sources of adapters and bits

There are three known aftermarket manufacturers who make wiring connector adapters and surrounding bezels for the use of aftermarket multimedia units in Jimnys 3:

Autoleads from Britain:

Connects2 from Britain:

Carav from China:

The "T-setup" wiring connector splitter / adapters are useful when installing additional multimedia devices apart from the multimedia player (like some Parrot bluetooth handsfree devices), as well as when installing some aftermarket sound amplifiers in certain wiring setups.

Expanding the multimedia capabilities of a Clarion player

Appearance of the center console in a Jimny 3 with factory installed Clarion PS-2685 multimedia player

Instead of replacing the factory Clarion PS-2685 2-DIN alike music player, it is quite possible (and relatively cheap) to significantly expand its capabilities:

  • There is an aftermarket add-on Chinese device Yatour YT-M06, which enables simple and intuitive MP3/WMA playback from an SD card, USB stick etc. directly through the Clarion player.
    • Yatour YT-M06 can also be optionally upgraded with a Bluetooth handsfree kit Yatour YT-BTM, which then works seamlessly with a Clarion player (answering calls, hearing the other speaker on vehicle speakers, ending calls, etc.).
  • Yatour YT-M06 has been proven to work quite reliably in practice, in various temperature and humidity conditions.
  • It also works quite intuitively - MP3/WMA music files are played in an identical manner like selecting CD tracks on a Clarion CD player.
  • Caution when buying: Yatour YT-M06 exists in several editions (for various car brands / factory radio systems).
    • The editions which are compatible with Jimnys (Clarion CE-NET radio system) are YTM06-CLAR and YTM06-SUZ1.
      • Both editions are identical - they are just named differently depending on a seller.

Technical specifications of Clarion PS-2685, taken from its original documentation
