Free wheeling hubs - permanently engaged or not?

My Jimny has free wheeling hubs and I'm wondering if it's worth leaving them engaged in 4WD mode all the time? I won't be doing much, if any, motorway or A-road driving (Welsh A-roads are mostly equivalent to B-roads in England anyway  ). So perhaps 95% of my driving will be muddy lanes, rutted bridleways and stuff like that.

I found this article which gives an interesting argument for leaving them engaged in 4WD:

Cheers
Pete

It's all new to me but my pals engage theirs when going landing for the day and just drop to 2wd between lanes and leave the hubs locked, this only means the front diff is turning. I found yesterday when I did this I could feel the steering more on mine. I unlocked them for the motorway drive home though

Depends on the day, for a regular sort of thing I leave the hubs open this will typically be a rew rock tracks and some relatively flat grass and quite a lot of road, if a specific job needed the extra traction that would be on an ad hoc basis. If however it is a day on the lanes up in the dales then I would tend to lock them at the start of the first lane and open them at the end of the last lane just using the 4x4 selection as the terrain warranted.

I'm OK with that - it's not a 3.5L V8

Mine are fixed hubs I bought when I got the car so cannot be set to free. It's all good with no issues.
