Oh dear, that's going to take some fixing! :(

Greenlaning yesterday from Oldham to Holmfirth, and mid afternoon we started getting a clonking from the rear...

Turns out the top mount of the offise rear shock has come away from the chassis crossmember :(

That'll take some fixing?! Body mounts off and jack the rear up to get to it I think?

Anyone else had this or heard of it happening?

Start work on it soon as we're 'laning in the Lake District 10/12 so need to get it done before then...

Thoughts welcome? Currently thinking of a U shape section of box section steel to do both sides...

My other thought was to cut a rectangle hole in the floor to get them?...

I suspect cutting a hole in the floor will be the quickest way.

Not seen anyone break a top one yet but suspect corrosion of the fairly lightweight suspension brackets (top, bottom and axle mounts) is going to be an issue in the future for these. The metal used is far too thin,

I would look at U-shaped box section it much heavier steel. Do both sides and watch out for the fuel tank whilst welding.

Depending on how far it is from the body mounts it might be worth considering making the cut out an "inspection panel" in case you need to get to the fuel pump/filter in the future. This would probably need advice from an MOT person.

Thanks Martin ;)

Just been to see my MOT Inspector... 500 yards away! :)

He confirms that's do-able as the panel(s) (i might as well do them both) are not to patch up corrosion... So I can probably make a couple of panels that reattach with riv-nuts and bolts and a bead of sealant around them... And there's no rear seat belt mountings to worry about as I have no rear seats or belts in this one.

Sounds like we will make it on the Lakes trip then! B)

Ive bad wheel wobble from some clart stuck in the front pass tyre bead and something is loose in the steering, but its all god fun. Better than the 3wd fiasco last time!

Fantastic day out with you all, nice to meet Becky as well. Looking forwards to the blog and the next outing ;-)

Thanks Riccy ;)

Zanfi photos are good for reference of the standard shock mounts!

They have the shocks cantilevered hanging off the bolt secured through the one thick plate then? Hmmm....

I think manufacturers ought to give you a job testing their motors on greenlanes Dave. If anyone can break It, you can!

The Jimnys had 50+ greenlaning trips by now, so I suppose I can expect some things to fail / fall off by now?

The more you use it the more you have to look after it. It's why I am on my second set of dampers in 7 years, going off road every day with a hundred plus kg in the back takes a toll.
