Hi
I use my Jimny as a van, ie the rear seats are removed.
The drivers seat belt does not return correctly which is a right pain and probably an MOT failure, are the rear seat belts the same, ie can I replace the drivers seat belt with one from the rear?

I don't know but if they are then that's a good idea as mine are also a pain for not retracting quickly.

This is a very common issue on Jimnys but not an MOT fail. I've never quite worked out why they get like it.

They are not the same.
Here on mainland the drivers side seatbelts (left) are mostly not returning due to a lot of use;
That's why I always buy second-hand ones in GB.
Maybe an idea to order second hand non drivers side (right ones) on mainland Europe?

I've been meaning to fix mine for 5 years now.......strip down and apply more preload.

I did that but it didn't help much. dismantled, twisted as much preload i could, cleaned and lubed everything and put them back in the car. I think it is the design of the seats that hinders the belt from lying straight to be spooled in. There is allways a crease on the belt that stops the motion in the top hanger. The resistance is just too much i guess.
What really helps for the MOT is to spray the belt and top hanger with silicone spray. The belt just fly in after that. The effect of the silicone spray wears off after a couple of days though, but in the mean time you have passed your MOT.
