Try to fix the original vacuum system from the vehicle.

It's quite easy and everything is clearly described into chapter 3D (2 and 3 onward) from the service manual.
If you get the vacuum tool, you can check if leakage is the issue or the valves are not operating correctly.

Last but not least, the debug and fix details from this side are very good

PS: I surprised how many people refuse to repair the vacuum system an prefer to replace the hubs with manual ones.

Because it offers an easy way to gain 2low or low range for the road. It's also a lot more robust if a little more involved in operation having to get out of the car to activate them.

If you need the Jimny only for offroading, than it could be a good solution, but for day to day drive and occasional greeen laning, factory condtion would work better (and comfortable).

I use my Jimny on the farm it gets a lot of use on road, off road, green laning and as a hot hatch on a weekend. I also tow a lot and the manual hubs make it way more versatile and really improve the manoeuvrability of trailers for reversing.

I've always stuck with the vacuum hubs and the only time I had an issue was when a wheel bearing had gone. The movement in the hub meant the vacuum system was not always sealed, and 4wd only worked intermittently. Sounds like you could have a similar issue. Other than that I've never had an issue. Adding the 2low switch means I have the best of everything without leaving my seat. As I'm using my Jimny for farm, forestry and trailer work I'm constantly switching between drive modes so for me keeping the vacuum system is invaluable.

There are so many different ways the vacuum system can fail and chasing them down is such a ball ache. This is why so many people abandon it. I will fix the photos on my guide one day.

If you can afford them, manual hubs have to be the best solution all round. A reliable permanent fix.

In my case, it was an easy fix. Having a pair of hubs as spares, debugging the system, cleaning the solenoids, vacuum lines was easy.

I'm thinking into mounting an electronic vacuum gauge on the dash to monitor the system.
The actual trouble/error comes when switching from one mode to another after vacuum system fails.
