Large hole off road! was created by VivaLaMikey
Heya there all,

Today I was doing some relatively light greenlaning in my 2005 jimny (with no mods other than a snorkel and some strobe lights). I was going around 15 mph and i hit a large hole covered by a puddle. It was totally my own fault. My only issue is, the ABS light has come on and after some hard stops i'm pretty sure the ABS has packed up. On top of that the passenger side hub appears to be grinding, but only when its in 4wd.

Does anyone know of anything i can try at home to fix the 4wd grinding? Do y'all more experienced Jimny owners have any ideas of what the problem is? (other than i broke it )

After have a look, i've snapped a cable that leads to the front drivers side wheel, (which i can only presume is the ABS cable) and the drivers side ball joint thats connects the wheel the the axle has quite a bit of oil on it, its not dripping off but its not far off...

I'll let everyone whos interested know what my mechanic says when i speak to him tomorrow...

Sounds like stones/mud trapped inbetween the disc etc causing the grinding noise.

It does sound like the ABS sensor cable, perhaps the sensor has been clobbered and is grinding on the ABS ring

If you need a new ABS sensor and harness I have in stock

1. Aftermarket sensor assembly - www.bigjimny.com/store/front-abs-sensor-assembly-p283.html

2. Genuine Suzuki assembly - www.bigjimny.com/store/front-abs-sensor-assembly.html

Turns out I've managed to bend the front axle and snap my abs sensor cable...

Thanks Martin for your help!

Wow bent front axle!

Gave it a proper crack!!

Was it the puddle frequented by Dawn French?

The only other thing that broke (that we know of) is the ABS sensor cable. Hurt my back pretty bad though...

Unfortunately the one i've got off ebay is in somewhat of a bad shape, quite rusty, notably the vacuum cables have been cut and are so rusty they fall off at the touch. Me and my mechanic are going to replace them with our own.

Another problem is the oil/grease on the kingpin (i think thats the name, ball joint that connects to the wheel) has clotted up and we had to lightly tap it off with a hammer! I should have it sorted soon so i can get on the trails again, but for now i'm limited to the tarmac :(
