Have a really annoying clunk from the back end of the Jimny , now I had to replace the shocks as 1 had detached itself from its bush , there isn't anything obvious I can see , both shock aren't fowling and the springs seem ok ?!... Seems to do it when the back axle moves up or down have had a good check of all nuts , bolts etc etc was thinking Panhard bushes ?! Any help would be greatly appreciated

Rams wrote: Well checked the trailing arm bolts ... They seemed tight but noticed the the top shocker bolt had worked its way loose ... Tightened that up and it was all good for a few days .... Had to go back offshore but the wife says the noise is back again?? So got a mate to have a drive and listen he reckons it's more like a spring or shocker sound not a clunk and only does it when the back axle is off camber ie going into a forecourt of a garage etc etc .... He says it sounds like its coming from the n/s/r wheel area ? There isn't much I can do about it the now as wont be home until jan but its bugging the hell out of me ... It drives perfect no wandering or crabbing anything like that ?!
mine does same when axle is moving through its travel its the spring moving in its seating on mine so if you can check that maybe?

I would take them off and have a proper look....
Look for wear in the mounting holes.

If lifted with no castor correction on the rear you will get a clunk as the springs re-seat due to the axle no longer being in the right position

I'm not saying it was the cause of your hole elongating Martin as you were using your car in harsh sandy environments regularly then to my recollection, but a loose radius arm bolt will make the noise and will cause the hole to elongate over time.
I've had it and nipped up mine, stopping the noise and my holes are not elongated. I read about yours and paranoia made me check them regularly after that and I've recently fited my ORA arms, so checked them for elongation then too!
