When the exhaust has been leaking gasses through the joint I've had no option but to disconnect them to re-seal them John. You can poor a little water out of the back box from where it draws it in as condensation as the back box cools.

I had a K11 Nissan Micra a few years back and the back box on that actually had a drain hole in It! This gave it longevity and as it was designed into it would not cause an MOT failure.

My Junior stands a lot - a very lot and I am always concerned about the water in the box but to get it off would be a real game. Could a hole be drilled and a self tapper put in to use as a drain hole. Where was your drain hole on the K11 Rob?

I think you'd cause rust John as they're coated, either galvanised or something else and you'll leave it bare at the point it's most damp.

Good point. I need a SS exhaust.;)
Regarding my Celerio, I was told somewhere by someone that today's exhausts are made to last longer. I wonder.

The one on Ermintrude is coming up 7 year old and whilst the back box outer shell is not a pretty sight it doesn't yet leak. Zebedee on the other hand with a third of the milage in ten less months on the road is noticeably more crusty for most of the length of the exhaust but again not currently leaking.
