Is my lift wrong? (Trailmaster 2" Comfort)

I finally went ahead with a lift for my Jimny after much deliberation (trailmaster 2"). It was done at my local garage and I'm just slightly concerned that the back looks higher than the front. Is that how it's meant to be, or is have they maybe got the springs on wrong?

Many thanks!

It does look a little high at the back and yes front springs on the rear will do that. :(

what Trail Master lift kit did you get? My 3" TM kit was also like that. Apparently because that kit was made to suit a heavy load. I fixed it with a couple of 15mm spring spacers in the front.

My 2" TM was like that, rear end was higher and car was leaning to the left (famous Jimny lean). Measured from rim to wheel arch I had:
-FL 18.5cm
-FR 20cm
-RL 21.5
-RL 22.5

I had to put spacers to the front, arround 30mm the FL and 20mm to FR. Now the car is level. And now it's a TM 3" lift :D

As the Trail Master kit is almost twice the price I would of thought it would come without such problems. :(

Thank you very much for your replies! I should have known this would get complicated haha. It's a 2" comfort lift.

Mraz - I did the same measurements and they were different from yours:

FL: 25.5cm
FR: 23.5cm
RL: 30cm
RR: 27.5cm

So my left side is actually higher than the right side. I confirmed that be measuring from the door handle to the ground and the left side was 2cm higher. However, I can't see a lean when looking at the car. I was measuring from the top of the rim to the highest point of the wheel arch. Mine is a 2004 if that makes any difference.

1066Boy - do you by any chance know the measurements from your rim to wheel arch? It seems to me that if it's between my front and rear height then maybe just swapping the springs would level it?

I had put off lifting my Jimny for 2 years because I didn't want to do anything too extreme, so it would be ironic if I ended up with a 3" lift (although also pretty cool). If that was the case is there anything else I should do? I had the superpro 2" caster correction bushes installed at the same time.

Thanks a lot for the help with this!

If you can see the part numbers on the springs it should be easy to check they are a the right end of the car. 76043 should be on the front and 76143 on the rear. If you have 76053 they are diesel front springs.

If it has been installed correctly, I'd speak to the supplier before adding spacers and things. Clearly something is not as it should be.

Looks pretty normal to me.

Here is mine with the same kit.

And here is a new Jimny

Each manufacturers lift kit is different. Some are simply springs with 2" added to the length without attention to the wire diameter/rate etc. Some have uprated front springs to cope with winches or diesel engines. Some are more road friendly, producing a pleasant ride without crashing into pot-holes or speed bumps.

The trailmaster 2" kit produces a nice drive on the road. It is the kit I was happy to put on my sons car (the black one in the photo)

One thing to check is whether the rear springs are located correctly. The spring seats are shaped to take the end of the spring and the spring should be a snug fit in the mount. It is possible that the spring has not seated into the shaped area. If this is the case then the spring either needs rotating into position or wait until there is a loud bang one day and it seats itself :)

My own Jimny has a mess of generic longer springs and pro-comp shocks. The ride is poor and it sags and leans. It is being re-incarnated with trailmaster shocks and springs

Note:I have an interest in this as I supply Trailmaster kits.

Mine with the same lift -

Sits level...

Ask the garage if they put the longer springs in the front or back?
