Whilst I agree that hilti are beyond cool they are massively over engineered for general diy or even semi professional use, they are firmly aimed at industrial production use,ie 8 hours a shift, 3 shifts a day, hell they offer fleet maintenance and management of the damn things. Yes they are excellent but equally total overkill for home car maintenance.

Is that your opinion or you have some proof of that?
Mikita invented the battery powered drill in 1969, then went on to introduce the first rechargeable ni-cad, nickel hydride and first lithion ion !
They are by far the market leaders in terms of sales.
hilti is a bit like an iphone, a well known brand that charges twice as much as everyone else for a product that is certainly not the best..

No i am a makita fan boy have been for years. If you are wanting a comparative review look at AvE and his BOLTR series.

sry, 11/60, my message was aimed at ollieNZ and his claim of hilti lasting longer and better quality than the rest ? lol
you posted too quick for me to get my reply in...
It is a hard call on what brand is superior as we can all find vids where each brand fails miserably, and also blows the others away !
Low volume manufacture means higher cost per unit.
High volume production hugely reduces cost, so the much more expensive certainly does not always mean better quality.

I've used (and abused) both brands over the years but have never done back to back comparisons of identical tool types. I'm not going to get into an argument over the technology and who's leading who because I've never looked into it. If I was buying professional woodworking/general building tools I'd happily stock my workshop with makita tools. If I was working in industrial construction/steelwork then I'd be looking at the hilti stuff. Just my opinion from having worked in both industries.

What brand is yours?

It's a Silverline, It is a bit longer than my airline one but slimmer. It weighs much the same - might be a bit heavier. Being electric it has a variable speed trigger. I tend to use it a lot. Just plug in and go In a similar vein I use a normal mains electric drill for screwdriver work.

I cannot make a recommendation but say don't buy a battery powered Clarke one from Machine Mart. I did and being Ni-Cad the batteries stop lasting as long.

They're just a bit out of date, albeit their cheap price reflects this.

When new they perform well though.

Thanks for the input guys! Lots of thoughts, facts and opinions! I already have a 1/2 air impact driver, which does the job but it is bulky with the air hose etc and I also have a small dewalt driver that is nice and light for ease of access but it not designed and cannot cope with bigger stuff. Looks like there are a lot of makita fans out there! Decision, decision, decision!

If it helps my suggestion is that as you have an air one and if you can live with a slightly bigger one then get on eBay etc. and just buy the cheapest electric. It is basically what I did and I never regretted it.
