Biggest tyres I can fit with a 3inch lift without any cutting????

I've been trying to find a definite answer to the question on what biggest tyres I can fit with a 3inch lift? I was hoping I could fit 235/75/15s on standard jimny wheels but I keep seeing a few people saying 215/80/15s so can someone give me a definite answer please. I want to take it off road so I'll be getting mud terrain tyres

There are no definite answers to these questions. Which tires exactly? How much backspacing? Which wheels? Which radius arms? Are you limiting uptravel with longer bumpstops or spacers? Why on earth don't you cut your fenders? Do you have the gearing to turn the bigger tires?

235/75/15 are almost 3" bigger than stock and that's without adding the extra width into the mix.
215/80/15 will work but will be close without any trimming especially with a Mud pattern.
I have 215/75/15 and a 2" lift and its fine even on full flex but the tyres are not over aggressive.
As stated before depends on the tyre as they vary a lot in there true high/width.

You won't get away with 235/75 r15 without any trimming unless you severely restrict the suspension travel. They are simply too big to go up into the arches. The biggest will be 215/75r15 which, incidentally, is also the biggest you can fit with no lift at all.

I've got BFG AT 235/75/15s on mine, with a 2" (trailmaster) suspension lift and a 2" body lift -

Edit : Although if I'd used remoulds they probably wouldn't have fitted as they are usually bigger than the stated size



But it's just a daily driver... as Busta says I think the tyres would touch if I took it offroad and twisted the axles up... But on road, they are fine.

I've had to alter the gearing to compensate for the larger diameter / circumference of the tyres though... Edit : this would be my biggest worry of going 'so' big...

I've got 31"s on the offroad toy though! -



With plenty of arch cutting! ;)

As the others have indicated it depends what you want to do with the Jimny?

Loose the mud flaps and you can fit 235/75-15 with 2-3" lift.
Normal road use with not too many passengers or heavy loads it will be fine.
slight rub on full flex and/or very heavy load.

I run 235/75-15 on original alloy wheels, two inch lift. On normal day to day use it is ok (for me).
I think it is not so much the lift, but also the correct wheel offset and brand of tire. cause it is very close on my car..
others will probably not be ok with this i see, but i will accept some slight rub offroading.

And totally agree with S200KYS worry for the gearing.
I find that 1600 motor corrects this as i like to drive on low rpm and M16 has good low end torque.
But for jimny with M13/G13 engine 235 tires really steal your motors "power".
Driving with 235 and 1300 can not pull the skin of the sausage (norwegian/local saying)

Is it worth it? 235/75/15 compared to 215/75/15 are only an inch taller and more importantly for
an offroad vehicle, only make half an inch difference to the diff clearance. :)
Also with the 215/75 standard gearing is fine with the 1.3 engine.

I agree with yakuza - mine has the 1.6 swift engine in and 235 tyres. before it was intolerable with the 1.3 original engine. Would struggle to go over 50mph up any sort of hill (not good in the north!) and forget about 70 unless its downhill with the wind behind!

Ive gone one further and swapped to earlier transfer box and diffs, which sorts it a treat, like a hot hatch now :-)

But as the others say 215 (which is what i had before on the 1.3 engine originally) were fine. would get upto motorway speeds and didnt need any trimming of the bodywork.

J999 MNY, ULYSSES M18 VVT with ITB's Dyno tested at 130hp

Pickup/tipper, R7me gearbox & 6.4 Rocklobster, 31" Toyo MT, 2x ARB air locker 3.9 diffs in braced axles, 6" total lift, Floating rear conversion, Raptor painted, CB, Recaro's, Caged, etc, etc...

one thing lacking from most of these tire size threads, (yes we do tend to start a new one every 10 days) is rim width and offset.

many says this and this tire size on original wheels, but are original wheels all the same?
I have many steel wheels for my SJ but i have no idea what would be smart to use on the jimny.
Maybe 15"x7" would be nice, but at what offset without cutting?
my original alloy wheels, (same as S200KYS in picture above) fits very well with 235's as they turn inside the fender wheel arc perfectly. Wider wheels would maybe make the tire rub the arches both front and rear...
