Just finished upgrading the fronts to early vitara calipers with vented discs and really cannot believe the difference in braking performance. Best money I've spent on the jimny yet.

Old thread revival.

Martin posted in the 'what did the postman bring today' thread about receiving the calipers and discs for this conversion this week.

Martins goodies:

This renewed my interest in sorting out my brakes. I already have the discs (or so I thought).

Trip to the local scrapyard where I knew there was a car with the right hangars on it...

Very rusty and obviously been sitting around ages as its all solid. £20 later and back home to try it on (obviously the old caliper is to bin).

Hangar fits a dream onto the Jimny mounting points:

But the discs I have are for a vitara as it turns out (the hat isnt high enough for a Jimny)

So I need new discs that fit and the calipers to match.

Cleaned up the carriers for now in readiness :-)

If Martin is reading - can you post links to the ones you bought please?

Not a guarantee.....but the carrier and caliper from a 2005 1.6 GV bolt straight onto a Jimny hub.....I only had a vitara disc to try though.....some idiot ordered jimny vents a year or so back as spares and never opened the box.

Crack on and have brakes which don't warp.

Luckily we have a GV to use the "Jimny" discs on!

Keithy, a long PM interchange last night I think has boiled down the true straight bolt on options for gen3 and gen4 Jimnys, lots of learning went on!

Some ordering to do and we will know for sure

Thanks for looking!

Thanks for this brake upgrade, I've wondered if there was a way to do this, does the master cylinder need upgrading
