That is a very good reason too. I hate transverse engine layouts but they are soooooo common.:(

Do it right - use Hammerite
When the blue light is flashing I am kidding.

I was looking at Defenders before the news of end of production, went on holiday and forgot about it. Later returned to find prices had gone through the roof so I bought a Jimny instead for the fun and games, pays and plays. :)

Always wanted one, more or less. since i was a kid i had been in love with suzuki's mini off-roaders, the first gen vitara and samurais.
So, for my first car i inherited my gramps 1992 Fiat Uno 45s, with a 1-liter F.I.R.E. engine that pumped out 45 italian thoroubreeds. Had 180k miles on the clog, and did almost 50mpg if i was very careful and shocks from the factory, ensuring i had to be very carefull. Great little car, took beating like a champ.
It looked a bit rough, paint pealing and chiped, old plastics. So i traded it for a 1993 Opel Corsa B, 1.2 litter with 45hp. Bit more thirsty, but just as bullet proof. Had it for 3 years, beating on it everyday, only thing to ever go wrong with it was the fuel pump in the tank, that failed due to always running on the reserve. Took it offroading and everything. Managed to save some money during ownership in order to buy something else.
When i finally got enough money i thought "now is the time, my body is ready"
I always liked the way the jimny looked. Plus, the SJ's where too old and beaten up, and the vitaras had lost their charm.
So, being scared about mileage, rumored to be 25mpg, i decided to splurge on a much dearer 1.5ddis jimny. Worst mistake on my motoring life.
Sure, did almost 40mpg, but the engine proved problematic. Loved to drive it, loved the looks with the hood scoop, but was proving too expensive to run for such a slow car. Ran it for 3 happy years, save for the maitenance bills. One day i was involved in a head on colision with another driver and that was it for the diesel jimny. Since it wasnt my fault and i got a bargain when i bought it, i got almost all my money back.
Ãgain, look for something to buy. Always wanted a defender, but it's too big and expensive to run, and i really wanted a off roader...great for the vacations and bad roads, so i got a petrol jimny. Best buy ever. it's a 2000 with a m13a and 75k miles on the clock. had it for a year and a half, nothing goes wrong with it save for regular maintenance and the usual problems a 16 year old car has. Super cheap to run. still manage almost 40mpg just like the diesel one, so fuel expenses are marginaly superior.
very happy with it, save for top speed...
still, a mx-5 is always in the back of my head, but it's so impratical as a daily driver due to space and luggage constrains...maybe one day.
as for now, i'll stick with jimnys for as long as possible

Totally agree with you. I loved my Shogun, it was a tank of a thing and you felt you could conker the world
in it but it just did not have the character of a Jimny and the Jim makes me smile everyday when I drive it
even after a year of having it. :)

We downsized our home which was situated on a small hill. The first winter we were there my wife's car was stuck at the bottom of the hill for 2 days because of snow and ice. I drove a Porsche, which never moved except for weekends. I work half a mile from where we live so it wasn't practical or fair to the Porsche to drive the car that short a distance. It was hard to get in and out of as we're both not as supple as we once were and my wife wouldn't drive it (even in an emergency), so I traded the Porsche in for a 2007 Jimny. (It's the first time I've traded a car and got money back with the deal).

I really like the Jimny and so does my wife. I take it to work occasionally when it rains, I use it to visit the local shops and take it 12 miles every week to Southdown Gun Club where I shoot clays. The road to the gun club is 70% rough unsurfaced road with potholes, so the Jimny is spot on for that.

As a second car it suits us very well.

2012 Jimny Black. Totally standard (except for rear seat removal mod).

We bought one as the missus car in 2010, I realised I loved driving it as it has no status attached, yea some shallow people may call em a bit gay but I see so many people in their new BMWs and range rover's and don't want to be one who keeps up with the Jones. I'm a bit of a car nut, I've owned a string of turbo cars and fast vw, Inc impress sti stage 2 330bhp, mr2 turbo, mk1 golf vr6 conversion, mk2 golf abf conversion, mk3 vr6 ect... a string of superbikes r1's superduke, blades. None for status, I went to shows, ran them at track days, Santa pod and that. Currently have a 280bhp 1999 Audi s3 Quattro which i just sorned and put in the garage.
I believe your transport should have another purpose other than mundane road driving, should be more than just a means of transportation.
When the missus got her original blue 2003 I admittedly felt a little silly driving it but soon grew to love bombing about in the little beast, short cuts across fields and detours to hit byways were the order of the day and on various occasions I found myself telling the missus it will t cut out after a some over grown edges attacked lol...
Basically my little boy arrived in
2014 and quite simply the s3 was bigger and the jimny was a big lump of cash to help us sort out the financial hole a birth causes!-) we were both sad to see blue bell go but needs must.
Missus went back to work and had a company car until today oddly, last week after viewing a menagerie of Diesel seats and tiguans, I /we decided on an overpriced 2006 jimny in grey, they have so much character we chose one over similarly priced German metal and 1.2 hatches 6 years newer, dunno what it is about them, have the character of a classic mini to me!-)
The s3 will now get retired for a year for essential engine work and I can add stuff to this jimny as I bought it lol, wonder if she will notice the general grabbers when I secretly fit em soon haha...
Oh and they are better than range rover's and x6's obviously;-) the boy is coming up to three now and will be bumping up some byways with him the weekend, he is gonna love it...
I loved parking in random places in the old one, at extreme angles in country park car parks too, or I would park it on objects in the garden secretly so when the missus came down for work she had to get one wheel off a 3 foot stack of wood, childish? Maybe...ha

I first drove one in Cyprus years ago, a clapped out hire car, but I got the bug after that. I bought my first Jimny about 5 years ago, a low mileage 53 plate, kept it a couple of years, spent a fortune on it then foolishly sold it. Got my second jimny just over a year ago, 55 plate , 1 owner with 34k on the clock and its solid... They're cheap as chips, simple to fix, and go anywhere , brilliant for what I want . :)
