So what is meant by average speed because from my maths I believe we can exceed a speed limit as long as we compensate for part of the journey.
For example.
The A9 has 99 miles between cameras so in theory if it was 60mph limit all the way (some apparently is 70mph) I can do 100mph for half of it and 20mph for the other half. Have a blast doing the ton for 30 mins Or just do 80 for half then 40 for another half.
How does that sound?
In Brum it's almost impossible to get to 40mph or 30mph limits in traffic - I suppose I should spend £200 on a gadget that tells me all this..

In theory yes but the is normally several cameras along the route to stop this. :)
We have just had them fitted on Hastings seafront to stop the "local lads"

Google says the shortest is London Bridge and the usual distance is a few miles. It is an unfair system because the operators are the ones with the gear to work out the fairness.

Just because it gives me the rage when civilians say it to me i shall get in first and say with that air of trite smugness, if you don't break the speed limit you don't have a problem. Yeah right whatever, just cos I have enough blood in my veins to actually enjoy driving doesn't make me a bad person.

Oh and whilst I am on one, thake your average speed camera safety system which is no more about being safe than it is a brilliant revenue scheme and shove it in your greedy eye!

Grrrr!

I don't like that if one speeds one is a criminal.

Have a look into where the mobile speed camera's can be located.....only where 85% of the road users speed I believe....I also believe that 85% of road users speed because it's safe to speed on that stretch being....financially exploited......most sane people don't speed where it's dangerous to do so....housing estates being a prime one......the maybe 10% who speed there are simply retarded.......often with a roundel or circus rings on their grille's.........sorry for the little rant but I'm missing my turbo! :D

I remember when they first came out, and Clarkson reckoned you simply pull up past the first one and read the paper, then you can do 200 mph+ to the next one and not get a ticket.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
