Hello all!

I'm José and I'm new to the forum! I've been reading threads the last couple of weeks cause I just ordered a new 4th gen Jimny that will arrive in January 2022 (Yeah, it sucks to wait that long but as in other countries, the demand is high!)

I'm reaching out to you to discuss the 225/70/r15 tyre size.

I've done a lot of research already regarding tyre sizes for the 4th Gen Jimny. I know that on the stock wheels, you can fit 215/75s and that it is the preferred size if you don't want to compromise performance or having to do a lift. In my country, I've even seen 235s on the stock wheels (with lifts of course) but I don't want to go that big.

Having said that, I haven't found much information on 225/70/r15. From what I've read, it's not that common in some places. However, it is available in my country. For example the Firestone Destination RVT and Maxxis (I don't remember the model name)

After a little bit of research, I found that the 225/70/r15's diameter is just barely larger than the stock tyres. Width-wise, it sits between the more common 215s and 235s. This seems to suggest that the 225s would have less impact on performance and fuel consumption than the 215s, although the 225 are wider, which could invalidate that statement.

Here's a comparison of the stock 195/80s vs the 225/70s:

tire-calc.com/comparison/195-80-r15-and-225-70-r15/

And here's one of the 225/70s vs 215/75s:

The concern here would be regarding the width of the 225s and if it would cause any problem to the steering. Diameter-wise, there seems to be no concern at all.

In terms of looks, I think the stock tyre wall height is not bad at all. I've seen some lifted 4th gens on stock tyres and they don't look bad. I do hate the stock tyres width tho. I currently have a 3-door 2011 Grand Vitara on 225s and I love that width.

Adding to that, I would be doing a suspension upgrade, not to fit bigger tyres but to improve stability and load capacity.

Thanks!

If you're wondering how a 4th gen Jimny looks on 225s, here are a couple of pictures I found:

I unfortunately don't have any experience with the 225s, and I am sorry to add ANOTHER consideration to your list, but I can confirm you can fit the 215/80R15s which will be a better width, and 5.6% taller than the stock size giving you about 19mm in height.

These are available here in South Africa in the Goodyear Wrangler ATs and I am really enjoying mine with little noticeable impact on performance.
Also, adding a good suspension lift (I have the Des Sol 50mm lift) will significantly improve your vehicles ride and handling, even with larger tyres.
