Cranking, not starting was created by petejones69
My Jimny cranks, but fails to start. The battery is fully charged. Any obvious things to check before I call for help (and spend some readies)?

It's been sat since early December last year; however, I did start it up about a month ago and it was fine, although I didn't drive it.

Cheers
Pete

Possibly problems

To run you have to have fuel and air in roughly the right quantities and a spark at about the right moment.

-Water (condensation) in the fuel tank? How full is the tank? A lot of water in the fuel might block an injector.

- Air filter, is it blocked or full of a birds nest?

- I assume the battery was flat and you recharged it, certainly mine would be flat by then? Perhaps you have a dead or poor battery cell

- Is the battery a good voltage whilst cranking, if the voltage is dropping a lot during cranking the ECU/Electronic ignition might be loosing timing.

- do you have a spark at the spark plug? There are various ways to check this.

- It sounds a bit bizarre but someone on here had a mouse chew through cables, any obvious signs of rodent activity?

Cheers Robin, as it happens I have had a mouse inside the vehicle - it chewed through the seatbelt! Difficult to check all the wiring - I guess looking for bits of insulation in the engine would be the easiest way. I will also check the other things you suggested.

The other thread on here was damage to a seatbelt on a Gn 4, it seems it was a mouse and it chewed its way through the wiring harness as well, see here

I would have a look under the dash in the drivers side and the passenger side foot wells where all of the cables go through the firewall for signs of chewed cables.
