I got my non starting issue sorted this week at last - seems a couple of the "relays"needed attention. So car no longer has the inermittent starting problem of a couple of weeks ago. However, now something with the petrol pump. Seems to be running constantly with a bit of a "zizzing" sound, which my hubby says is not normal. He say that under normal circumstances, when you put the key in there is usually a "zizzing" sound just for a few seconds, but then cuts out when engine fully ignited. But now it seems continuous. Is this a problem. He seems to think it is dangerous for this to be happening. Any views on this please?

The initial noise that stops is the pump priming. As the motor catches the noise should be drowned out by the noise of the engine. If it is not then the pump could be on its way out. Replacing the pump means removing the whole fuel tank.

Thanks. Do you mean the noise SHOULD stop after it is primed,or that the noise still continues but you dont hear it because of the engine noise?

The fuel pump has to run while the engine is on. The noise of the pump should be quieter than the noise of the engine.
