Hi fellow Jimny fans,

Proud new owner of a 2011 Automatic Jimny. 76,000km

Since we on lockdown here in Switzerland, and I have nothing to do, I wanted to make the Jimny my new project and get my hands dirty for the first time with a car. This is the only car I've ever had in which I feel compelled to do everything myself.

I figured I would change:
1. Front and rear brakes
2. oils (incl filter)
3. Battery
4. Sparkplugs
5. Airfilter and pollen filter
6. Brake fluid
7. Coolant

If its not too much to ask, could you guys list out the liquids (oils etc.) I need to purchase. I just don't want to make any mistakes with my order. I'm a native english speaker, ordering in German, and since it's my first time...I'd appreciate any help I can get.

I assume the above jobs aren't too much to handle? Anything I'm missing, anything I forgot.

Hello and Welcome,
Servicing is easy on the Jimny with a few basic tools, even the bigger jobs are not that bad. The Wiki (Jimny Information) has all the fluid quantities and grades so have a look at this first, if you still have any questions please ask away.

Coolant is silicate free OAT type in your engine.

Your rear brake shoes may not require changing, they tend to last a long time unless you fill the drums with mud. If you want to save some cash take a look before you change them.

Gearbox, transfer box and differential oil change?
If you want to change the gearbox oil you need a device to pump the oil to the filler plug, it's high on the side of the gearbox (above catalytic converter) and difficult to fill. Some use oil syringe or modified garden spray bottles to get the oil in.

It's all good fun and your can get oils etc from you local motor supplier.

Yokohama Geolanders, Sony head unit, NAUTILUS Air Horn, DRL conversion, Rear cargo space, Elvis Bobblehead, transfer Guard, Indian hanging Elephant, Koni Heavy track dampers, Custom SS exhaust, Voodoo Doll, Adventure Rack with LED ight bar, vintage ERIBA caravan usually attached (yes it's slow)

I appreciate the tips. Any special tools needed beside what you find in a "normal" toolbox besides the oil pump?

Not that I can think of, but I have a lot of tools, it's an age thing.. The plug spanner may be smaller than on many older cars, or I am getting it confused with the MR2, but that's the only thing that comes to my mind but I may be wrong?????
Someone will confirm.
You can get the gearbox oil in from above, routing a plastic pipe from the engine bay and filling from above, but it's probably a two person job at this point.
If you can get the complete vehicle on 4 ramps it's makes working underneath more comfortable, but not essential.

Ideally you will need a 10mm square socket to remove the fill and drain plugs
Also make sure you can get the fill plugs out before you drain anything
OR you'll be stuck with no oil in to drive it :)

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationAs Jack says, you need the a 10mm square sump plug tool for the diff, gearbox and transfer plugs.

As Scimike says get a long reach spark plug key the one in my Halfords socket set didn’t fit down into the head

On the 8th Day God made the LandRover -
On the 9th day he swapped it for a Jimny.

Double ended spark plug spanner giving both 10mm (16mm Euro) and 14mm (21mm Euro)

300mm Long and 28mm wide.

My 3/8drive bahco mini set 16mm plug socket slides just nicely into the head and allows the use of a suitable extension to get to number 4 cylinder which is a little obscured by the fire wall.

On the BIG Jimny wiki, it says for automatic gearbox oil either 3.7 or 5.7 l

How do I know which one my car needs?

1SD6 90 is my Jimny type
