Trouble separating gearbox from engine was created by Jiminy Cricket
Hi everyone,
New guy to the forum here and new to Jimny's. My first job is to replace the clutch on my new-to-me 2002. It was going fairly well until it came to sliding the gearbox back off of the engine. I have removed all the screws (as far as I know) but that sucker won't break free. The largest gap is about 10mm on the offside.
I haven't removed the starter motor, is this 100% necessary?
Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks, Cricket

Hi Cricket,
On my later model (2005) the bolts of starter motor link the engine and gearbox together therefore they must be removed before you could pull them apart. I'm almost positive this is also the case on a 2002 Jimny. Remove the bolts but might be better to leave the motor loosely in situ as the clearance around it isn't great for removal. I hope it helps.
Regards, Gabor

Thanks Gabor
I’ll give it a go later removing the starter as much as I can. Having thought about it, I think I may have removed the bolts for the starter anyway.
Anyone got advice if I have removed the starter and the gearbox still won’t come off?

As mlines reported remove completely from bell housing as you will have trouble refitting to. Which engine has it got?
