This light has a habit of staying on so how does the handbrake cover come off? Does it mean seats and carpet out? Also are the switches available?

Is there enough fluid in the reservoir our 16 did that with the level at about half between the marks.

coins falling down into the switch by the hand brake handle, loose wires, ignition key switch slack or loose,
you can try wiggle the key a bit.
faulty brake handle switch or on the brake fluid reservior.. reservoir switch can be tested by pressing the lid.

Mine never came off from a broken circuit inside the dashboard cluster. took me a while to find that.. Also the ABS central and a diode inside the dash can make it shine forever. according to the circuit diagram.

This has been discussed in several other topics, think i copied most of them into the topic I kept alive for a while

The last post is what I wanted as it is definitely the switch. Do the seats have to come out then?

no, just slide them forward as far as you can.

Theres 2x screws around the cup holder area. remove them and slide it a bit towards the rear before lifting up and over the handbrake handle ;-)

Theres a plastic tab that goes into a bracket so if you dont slide it back before lifting that snaps off.

Champion Riccy.
The fluid level is OK and the pads and discs and callipers are brand new. This has been ongoing for sometime and it needs looking at now. It is intermittent by the way.

Spot on Riccy. So it is not a switch per se but a spring operated earthing connector. Not much to go wrong on it. But I hoovered a few dried leaves and removed the holder and plunger, cleaned all surfaces ensuring that the contact points were bright and shiny for contact and replaced, It is held on to its mounting point with just one PK screw.
