Hi Keith, welcome to Jimny ownership and the forum.

I am not 100% sure if you actually have a problem (or I don't understand), I tend to go with if it works there is nothing wrong with it.

That said the clutch cable / pedal can be adjusted via a plastic bolt on the gearbox end of the cable, usually tight to get moving, but once free can be turned by hand.
You should have 10 - 20mm of free movement in the pedal before you feel an increase in resistance, this is the point at which you actually start to lift the clutch. It's best done by hand to feel for this point, if you feel nothing or it's greater than the above spec it needs adjustment.
If you can't get this within the limits of the adjuster then it's possible you cable has stretched too much or you clutch is on its last legs, but go with the cable adjustment etc first.
But then if it's working just drive and enjoy!

Welcome to the forum. Agree with checking cable adjustments but it sounds about right?

Thanks Mike for the info I'm guessing probably the Clutch is at its limit it's not the smoothest when depressing the pedal but then I've been used to the Hydraulic type.Do you know how easy it is to drop the Gearbox & replace the Clutch if need be?

Hi Keith.
Replacing the clutch is a job I have yet to experience so I can't offer any tips. Like most jobs on the Jimny I doubt it will be difficult other than the discomfort of working under the vehicle, rather than the luxury of standing when working on a raised platform.
I am sure others have experience of doing this job so will be interested in the replies also. Alternatively it's not too expensive to get a local clutch specialist to replace it, I believe Max headroom got his replaced this way (or have I imagined this?) so may have an idea of cost.
Anyhow still check the cable adjustment first (it's free).
Here is a picture of the cable adjustment Nut (black bit) on the gearbox.

Yep it was me ;)

My neighbour also got her Jimny clutch replaced by the same firm Mr Clutch in Swindon but there may be one near you
Furthermore two SAAB owners I know and a colleague with Landrover Freelander are all happy customers.

Ok did not dream it. I have used a local Mr Clutch to do our Nissan, also happy with the work and very quick.

Welcome along!

A new cable is cheap enough and easy to fit, especially if a new clutch is going in for it to be disconnected anyway. So have a new one fitted with the clutch to be sure everything is like new and trouble free.
