Chassis variations (JB74 - new Jimny)

This has been asked of me and is a mystery.

The UK ( possibly EU and Japan) market has the box and ring attachments on the chassis. These also appear in the pre launch pictures of the bare chassis.

However they DO NOT appear in other markets and mean that some accessories from other markets do not fit.

Any idea what they do? (and are they on the SZ4 as I only have SZ5s to compare with). The box has a rubber like filler. It's it some sort of harmonic damper, if so why don't other markets have it.

I had wondered what they were there for, but didn't know not all Jimnys had them. Makes it an even bigger mystery?

A couple of pictures from Suzuki showing the variation. I think one is a Kei chassis but South Africa does not have Kei models

Might rings be a manufacturing artefact? Don't know what the boxes are for?

Do you mean as in tooling/jig holes? I would have thought they would use the chassis/body mount hole for that? And if they are doesn't make sense they would remove them for some markets. If the boxes are for no beneficial purpose, it seems they have just built in some rust traps?

But the rings are common in both pictures just the boxes come and go. I have no secret knowledge just thinking logically?

Could the boxes be associated with seatbelt mounting locations bolted through to the chassis to improve occupant safety in the Ncap ratings?

Box's might be some sort of side impact mitigation, Maybe why they vary from country to country depedant the regulations.

It's been fettled just a tad.

Replied by cyberdriver on topic Chassis variations (JB74 - new Jimny)
We have these boxes in Aus too. I guess they contain infrared sensors for lane departure warning (which SA does not get). Rubber for damping the sensors, and a shield for their protection. Will tape over the holes and drive erratically later today to no doubt prove myself wrong :)
If I am right it looks like around 10kg my Jimny could do without.
