Rockwatt Box - which way is 2WD? was created by petejones69
Hi

Been away for a while, but I'm still having problems with the Redacted transfer box. When I purchased the jimny back in November, the guy I bought it from told me the transfer box was like the letter J, forward to the top of the J for 2WD, straight down for 4WD and then left and up slightly for low 4WD.

However, this isn't how it appears (and is different to when I first drove it). Now, it seems like the top of the J is low 4WD - have to change gear quickly and am in 4th gear when I'm only doing about 15mph and the revs are quite high. The only trouble is, I never drove it in low 4WD before this apparent change so don't have anything to compare it to.

It's happy now in either of the two lower positions (which should be 4WD and low 4WD).

Any thoughts? Does anyone else have a Redacted box? If so, what are your positions?

Cheers
Pete

If it is still the standard shift pattern, It should be like this.

Cool, that's how it appears to work now. Good god, I drove about 300 miles on the motorway in low 4WD when I collected the vehicle

Please tell me you have manual hubs and that they weren't engaged when you drove down the motorway in low range?

Could be a split H configuration if it has the 2wd low option... If so you can get really really lost :)

It does seem like a J when I move the lever around. Like this:

Bought the correct transfer knob and stuck that on yesterday, just incase I take it to a garage and they don't know what's what.
