Offside front body mount coroded was created by petejones69
Hello

I took the plunge and bought my first Jimny this week - well chuffed so far B)

However, there is an advisory on the latest MOT: Offside front body mount corroded but not within prescribed area

Basically there is a hole in the metal about 2 inches across by an inch high where it has rusted away. What's the best way to repair it? Can take a picture tomorrow if need be. Would it be possible to fill the void, then patch up the metal? I've never welded anything, but willing to give it a go. I'm trying to get away from taking my vehicles to someone else to fix as I always seem to get ripped off (last adventure was I took my previous car in for an electrical fault and they replaced the two front tyres! )

Cheers
Pete

Quite ambitious if you've never welded before.. you will need a mig welder, a little instruction and/or lots of practice! Or find a good garage and be clear about what you want them to do.

Have you not got wheel arch liners? How did the tester see that? I had the same on the n/s and I just cut away the bad bit and treated the rest. It's not structural as it doesn't effect the mount, at least mine didn't.

No, I haven't got any for some reason. Thanks for the advice, I will try that and see how it goes.

I don't have rear ones on my car either, I might have a spare set of front ones from a Jimny I broke. I'll get a look in my storage container tomorrow. It's almost impossible for a tester to see that area with liners in place, if it's not affecting the mount then I can't see it being an issue, it's a bollox of a design anyway and it's always going to hold water.

Thanks. I know what you mean - it took me ages the other day to wash all the mud out of the void. No idea why they didn't fit the liners back in. I was thinking of making my own.

Err im looking at that hole and thinking it is within 30cm of a body mounting bracket and should be a fail? I would be cutting it back and welding in a repair.
