Swivel seals leaking was created by nick40
hey folks,
My Jimny is a 2003 Spanish Job with 49,000 miles on the clock, just had my monthly look underneath and the drivers side swivel seal is leaking, About three months ago I did the copper washer job on the bottom king pin which took the wobble away. Whilst I have the hub apart should I change anything else other than the swivel seal and half shaft seals, Im thinking king pin bearings and wheel bearings. There is no evidence that either of these have any excessive wear, other than the wobble 3 months ago that is now sorted.
Regards Nick

I would leave the wheel bearings if you think they are ok (hardest thing to swap, big press and special socket tool needed). rest is easy and relativley cheap, so while its in bits change it all and give the swivels a good clean/sand to get them smooth. Oil leaking (i.e.diff oil) is usually the halfshaft seal. If its grease then maybe the swivels have too much in there? its only 100g needed i think. Use waterproof grease (martin sells some really good blue stuff, as well as the other bits).

If the driveshaft seal is leaking there must be some movement somewhere so definitely do the king pin bearings. Personal I don't bother changing the swivel seals.

The seal is just a dust/dirt seal.
If stuff is leaking out it could be diff oil from shaft seal?
