New alternator belt faliure was created by Sasquatch
Hi,

I fitted new "Continental" alternator and PAS belts a couple of weeks ago to my 1999 Jimny and have only done a few hundred miles since.
Started it up today and ok for a few seconds then clunking and banging. When I checked the alternator belt has shredded !!
The pulleys look Ok and the alternator spins freely, what could cause this other than a faulty belt ?

How much tension should the fitted belt be under ?

Thanks.

Recent threads about the bottom pulley failing might be a good starting point to check!
