If it's as loud as that then any play in the propshaft if it is that would manifest in off axial movement. What I mean is that the joints would be able to move by hand vertically or horizontally. It's not impossible that the natural play in the propshaft taking up drive happens in the same instance of what has actually failed makes it's noise and the blame is being transferred to the propshaft to get you off the ramp.

I'm not too sure there should be any natural play in the prop shaft tbh. I'm going to ask them to remove the prop shaft while I'm there so that I can check the UJ myself. It should rotate smoothly in all directions without any play. Same for the CV joint at the other end. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks again :)

Sorry I wasn't clear. By natural play in the propshaft I mean the backlash in the attached gear sets when on the car. There should be no rotational movement between the two ends of the propshaft.

I had this problem recently, turns out the gear linckage housing had broke and was hitting against itself when the gearbox moved, I also had bad vibration when trying to drive at 30mph in 4th, it has also cured that problem

Picked car up from dealership on Thursday without resolution. They are stumped!
Prop shaft is okay, no excessive backlash in diff, brakes are okay, axle and engine mounts all okay.
They're expecting a 2016 Jimny into stock next week and the MT is going to compare it with mine.
It mainly does it in 1st and 2nd gear accelerating and lifting off and when changing from forward to reverse and visa versa.
It's like a springy kind of 'kaddung' sound as though something is moving one way or the other when certain torque is applied.
If anyone else has experienced this I'd appreciate some advice. Does anyone know if there are any workshops that specialise in Jimnys that would be able to diagnose this problem as I don't think my dealership has much experience with them tbh.
Cheers
