Castor Correction Radius Arm Bushes

Dear All,

I have recently picked up my 3 inch lifted Jimny from KAP and drove it all the way from West Yorkshire to Southend-on-Sea in Essex - so pretty much one extreme of England to the other.

Darren warned me about the steering being "TWICHY" because the castor correction bushes the previous owner bought to go with the lifting srings and shocks were still in their bag in the boot.

I took it easy as he suggested but having owned a standard Jimny before and driven all sorts of cars and vans at work and our old SJ, I don't seem to find it bad at all, even at 70 MPH.

I may just get used to driving different vehicle's quickly as I change from an SJ to a Jimny to an Escort to a new Focus to a new Transit to a Mercedes Sprinter all in a week and drive some several times over.

Are they stricly necessary?

Is it just the driving characteristics or will it cause undue wear on the bushes to not change them for the poly castor correction bushes?

When I spoke to Rhino Ray about modding my own Jimny rather than buying one he did suggest lifting it and seeing how I get on before changing the radius arms or their bushes. What's your views?

As I understand it the main problem when you don't put in castor correction is that the steering wheel does not self-centre after turning corners. It will also respond differently to steering input with some slight movement of the steering wheel producing strange responses from the driving wheels. But a lot of people put up with it and do not correct the castor.

Thank you for this Martin, I'm in two minds as to whether to bother or not, possibly won't as it's not othering me with them the way they are!

Thanks again

Kirky
