Rear Control arm or Tie Rod ? was created by daly443
Hi,

Please can anyone confirm what the following part is called in the photos below (where the red arrow is pointing)of a 2001 Jimny

The bar has been bent, then straightened, but I would prefer to replace.

First of all, it was mentioned that it was a 'Rear Torsion Bar, but then someone else mentioned it may be a 'Rear Control Arm or Rear Tie Rod ?

I would be gratefull for any help in naming the bar and for any info on where I can obtain one from ?

Cheers

Paul

Its the rear panhard rod, specially made of cheese so it bends on the first trip off-road.

A number of off-road parts supplier do them. Some are simply a standard panhard rod with a bit of angle iron put on it to strengthen it whilst some are proper replacement parts.

See sites such as KAP Suzuki and DGtuning

Jamie, clearly Paul has first dibs on the Panhard Rod if he wants if, but if not then I most certainly do!

I am looking for both a front and rear Panhard Rod in order to start an "exchange" service for strengthened ones. I want to get them strengthened and then offer a service where a customer sends me their good ones and I send them the strengthened set whilst sending their old set off for strengthening ready for the next customer etc. etc.

Happy to pay you the going rate (whatever that is??)

Well the good news is that I have bought the first set of both front and rears from Jamie and will get them sometime over Christmas for strengthening.

Talking to Jamie there may be an issue with the bushes. I had intended that customers would remove the bushes from their originals and put them into the replacement ones, meaning I did not have to worry about it. However, Jamie has indicated that getting the old bushes out is very difficult. Therefore I may have to look into putting Polybush replacements into the strengthend ones.

Martin,
Sorry my mistake!!!
Getting the bushe's out is not a problem it's getting them back in
unless i was doing something wrong. In my opinion the poly bushes are worth the extra cost
Mine drives 100% better with poly's in !!
