hello
somebody knows why in the jimny manual page 8--9 (407 from the pdf) it says that jimny atf oil tranmission capacity is 5.7 L?
Automatic transmission oil “SUZUKI ATF 3317” 5.7 L (10.0 Imp pt)
my jimny is automatic and it only takes 2 liters, is there somewhere else you gotta flush?

Under normal circumstances you cannot completely drain the automatic.

You can only change around 2 litres. This is why I recommend "keep it fresh" IE change regularly as a lot is old fluid

Its one of those 'If it works, dont @*&$ about with it' jobs!

Back when I was a humble mechanic at a Mitsubishi deallership we had to replace 2 Evo X SST gearboxes because people had changed the oil when they didnt need to. 1st one was destroyed because the customer didnt fill it correctly and drove it without enough oil in it. The 2nd one filled it with the wrong oil. When it mixed with the residual oil in the valve block it made some sort of brown ATF jelly!

Later, as a Suzuki tech, I attended Suzukis UK headquarters for their Automatic transmission course. The lecturer explained many of the items we get to mess about with in the workshop were units replaced and returned under warranty. In his time as the motor vehicle lecturer only 2 had ever been returned so we didnt have enough auto gearboxes to go round!

Suzuki automatic gearboxes are pretty reliable. Unless the oil is burned brown, almost black or resembles strawberry milkshake leave it alone!

Many auto specialists will cycle the oil rather than just fill it up. (Mackie transmissions in Glasgow and Landrover in Aberdeen anyway!) They have a powerful pump connected to big drums of the correct fluid, they connect it to the cooler pipes and it circulates the oil removing all the air/contamination.

Yeah, the mechanic would remove the auto trans pipes from the bottom of the radiator and connect them to the machine.

Another reason for not replacing the oil (that I thought of whilst daydreaming instead of working today!) is the solenoids in the valve block. Working on automatic transmissions, everything has to be spotless. A human hair can affect the way a brake band or clutch engages.
When you drain the transmission fluid any dirt, bits of clutch or brake bands, water etc. collect in the solenoids. Which changes their resistance which in turn affects how far and how fast they move. This can affect the quality of the gearchanges. Look up 'YepThatsIt' on youtube to see how catastrophic that can be.

Like I said, if you dont absolutely have to, dont touch it!
