Hello All,

I have just bought my first Jimny which I will pick up tomorrow. It is a '53 plate hard top JLX manual and is currently standard.

The plan is to get it 'green lane' ready and to do some off-roading with my daughter.

I have no experience with Jimny's and will need some help with what I need to do, so I am hoping the lovely people here can help. I will also be looking to buy some parts like wheels, tyres, lift kit, etc. So any help in these areas will be appreciated. Pics to follow!

Good to be here!
Chris.

Welcome to the best resource for all things Jimny.

I bought a 2011 Jimny about 2.5 years ago and never looked back. I didn't go on the lanes in the first few months and then had a go at one which was far too muddy, another member on here suggested a few lanes which were more suitable and since then I look for lanes which are driveable with a largly standard Jimny.

Even with H/T tyres, they are quite capable, but if you are loosing grip then change to some A/T tyres if you are not on them already. I would give that a try for a while before going for a lift kit, mud tyres, winch or anything else at least until you know what you need and the lanes you might drive.

Perhaps if you mention where you are based someone can suggest a few good routes to get you going?

Thanks for the advice Robin, much appreciated.

I am based in Farnham, Surrey, which is about 10 miles south of Guildford. Any advice on some green lanes in the area would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Chris.

Can't recommend any lanes but I will second the advice to go out as is first and gradually improve an already very competent car. It is also true that the best modification to a Jimny is driver training, look for a pay and play site that has instructors attached to it, it will be the best money you will spend.

Some great lanes Farnham. I can't remember which are which to be honest but this area with a lot of lanes together (Devil's punch bowl, I think is round there), and the 3 lanes that all converge to a point were both great. Spend most of the day going round those areas.

There was one very challenging and steep rocky lane, and another which was sandy and went through beautiful purple fields. Really picturesque and not at all difficult. You've also got some water crossings there.

So, picked up the Jimny today, I’ll try to get some pics tomorrow.

So my first question, does anyone know if a set of steel rims from a new Jimny would fit on my 2003 car?

Thanks in advance!

Chris.

Yes I think they will. Though I think the centre bore changed at some point from smaller to bigger by a mm or so but can't remember when or if it is just for brake discs?

Thank you,

I am watching some on eBay, but if anyone here (nearby) has some suitable steel rims for sale please get in touch.

Cheers,
Chris.
