The main advantage with the late gen3 is that the facia is true double din so you can fit any stereo you want. Also the wiring is already adapted to iso so again it is possible to fit anything you want. Personally I have a single din sony and it's all I need.

Hi all! I have recently bought a 2016 and noticed there's a few differences to my 2006, there is a single radio unit with a hole below.
I'm wanting to fit some thing else and my wish list is -
-plug straight in
-fascia same shape
-Bluetooth
-android auto
-not astronomically expensive
Do you know if there's anything out there please? Any links?! Thanks all!

I have an Xtrons double DIN in mine with curved edges.  The model I have is no longer available, but the updated model is better and I did see it for around £170 on Amazon, but it might have gone back up, Xtrons sell it for £280, probably a bit expensive at that price, search eBay and Amazon for a better price.

There are other suppliers but they don't seem to do the curved edges.

I have added DAB, front and rear cameras, OBD-II and TPMS to go with the in-built Satnav, hands free and music player.

Thank you! Do you think something like this would be easy? I'm no electrician! www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08V19VQ5K/ref=cm_sw..._encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Thanks Robin! I think the 2016 doesn't have the rounded edges, but happy to be corrected! I am keeping my options open for additional cameras for now, I found this one www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08V19VQ5K/ref=cm_sw..._encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Correct, the 2016 is true din with square corners.

Hi,

My 2011 requires a double DIN radio with round corners and I thought that the 2016 was the same, but looking at the pictures on Amazon, it seems to have round corners, so I don't really know.

As regards fitting, they normally come with a DIN connector cable, the image seems to show this, but it also details a cable which is wired ended although this may be for features not included on the standard DIN cable.  There seems to be some variations on DIN plugs, for another I car I fitted a Xtrons unit, I had to order an additional DIN cable.

A word of warning Suzuki didn't use the Standard wiring on the DIN plug on my Jimny, these units need a constant live and an ignition and one of these was in the wrong place, easy enough to change if like me you are an electronics engineer and have a vehicle wiring diagram, but difficult if you don't have these skills.

The wire ended cable will need splicing in to the correct cables in the dash if you are going to use or need these features.  I can probably help with these if you take some photos of the connectors and cables, but it might involve splicing cables which is not easy without the correct tools.

Just a couple of other issues, it doesn't appear to have a GPS built in, so to run a SatNav, you would need to run that on your phone and display through Android Auto.  There also only appears to be 1 USB port on the front, which will limit the expansion.

Another word of warning, it doesn't run Android, but runs Linux and there are no 3rd party apps for it.  Anything you want to run, you have to run on your phone and link through Android Auto, which it does support.  I have Android Auto on my other car, it was an optional extra and it took a bit of getting working (I have an iPhone), but it was okay once it was working correctly.  However, here is the problem, I have never used Android Auto, it is too fiddly to use and I prefer inbuilt apps in the head unit, not on my phone.

So for me, the lack of an upgradable operating system with 3rd party apps (E.g. Android), the question of the rounded corners and the possible problem with fitting would make it a non-starter.

There is someone on eBay selling the latest Xtrons unit with rounded corners for a Jimny (they list 2016 as compatible) for £215.99 (Xtrons price £284.99), it doesn't come with Android Auto as standard, you need an optional extra (CP-02 or CP-03), but does come with nearly everything else including built in GPS, music player, hands free phone link, etc, etc.

It runs Android 10 and if you don't like the inbuilt apps you can always download new apps.  I changed a number of the built in apps, E.g.

- Music Player - Changed to PowerAmp and just dumped all of my music on to a microSD card, so much easier than connecting my phone
- SatNav - Changed to HERE, so much better than the inbuilt and you can cache maps on the SD card
- I added a DAB dongle and run DAB-Z, much better than the inbuilt DAB app which just searched all of the time.

Good luck

Robin
