Hampshire newbie mod advice please was created by dvearn
Hi all,
Thanks for letting me join your Forum.
I'm moving to Hampshire and in need of a second car for local run around that's cost effective to run, and I'm really taken by the Jimny.
Please can anyone recommend a suitable garage to fit 2" lift kit, some wide arches and chunky wheels/rubber to give a more rugged look without compromising the on-road experience too much - I'm hoping the after market shocks and springs will improve on-road comfort.

Use Case:
Mainly on-road, but will double as ATV on flat fields inc towing

Thanks
Dale

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Standard suspension, i.e. no lift kit will be best for the road and will cope well with a field or your average green lane, just get some A/T tyres rather than H/T tyres. There are plenty to choose from in the standard wheel size.

Increasing the suspension height and M/T will make it less stable on the road, however better it looks.

Thanks Robin.
My rationale for the lift kit was also to be able to fit chunky wheels & tyres, as well as the improved comfort on road.

Are there any UK sites/specialists to get Jimny mods?

Welcome to the forum. Depending on what you're after have a look in the shop in the top banner. As to fitting lumpy tyres and taller suspension the big tyres will affect the gearing which correcting is a slippery slope that can get expensive. Taller suspension might improve the ride quality but so does just refreshing the tired factory equipment on older models. Also taller suspension doesn't necessarily mean more articulation and an improvement off road again without spending serious money. It's all possible but doing it well isn't quite as simple as it sounds.

Rather go for something like this...des-sol.co.za/product/50mm-lift-kit-gen4...r-correction-bushes/. Tried and tested, improves on-road handing, and comes with castor correction bushes and extended brake lines. It gives plenty of room for chunky tyres. Mines been on for nearly as long as I have had the car, excellent kit.

Hi Newbie,
I'm new to Jimny's also, 11 months in love it (2004 O2 model). Mine came with Dueler tyres fitted, ok on road and so so off road and in light coverings of snow. So in January I had some Hankook all terrains fitted to the standard rims. On road performance seems better, no noticeable increase in fuel consumption, off road great, and in the heavy falls of snow we had up north BRILLIANT !

What makes you think making the car taller will make it more comfortable on the road? Bigger, heavier tyres will also have a detrimental affect on road manners and comfort.
