Jimny headlights was created by oldrattler
Hi everyone,

One of my headlights blew so I have fitted a pair of Osram night breakers, but one side seems to be a lot dimmer than the other, is there any reason for this.

Thanks.

lol, owning a Jimny makes you realise you have to forget nearly everything you have learned about cars and start over again. :)

Bulb needs a power source and a return. When a light shows that degree of dimness, I would suspect the return, but a check on the voltage would be a good start and then you could add your own return to confirm your diagnosis. then it's just a matter of hunt the bad resistance.

I'd also look at the condition of the wires going into the plug especially for signs of green rot.

So it is the wiring to that bulb, it is limiting the current. Is it the same on main beam as dip? If it is, it is the common or earth wire. If it is just dip or main then it is one of those wires.

It could be corrosion on the contacts, inspect and clean with a bit of emery cloth.

Have you got a multimeter? Check the voltage to earth of all three wires, compare against the good side. On the main/dip you should see 12v or more if the wire is good. On the common or return you should see 0v. If you have a resistance joint on one of the wires it will limit the current and you will see a difference in the voltage.
