Surprisingly expensive £ 845 Dinitrol underseal quote for my SZ5. I like the company found near me. Hope to keep car long term and it will get an easy country road life As in 70 s want it done by professional rust proofing company with first class reviews.I cannot do it . Will I think it worthwhile say in 10 years time as you mainly say rust on Jimnys can be bad. They want my one year old car for 3 days and will photo all work etc Or are new models better factory protected. Thanks

That does sound like a high price!
Rust proofing on the new Jimny is improved over the previous model (according to Suzuki) and ours does seem to be quite well protected.
l've still sprayed some areas with wax, maybe if you are worried about it you could get another quote. Wax based coatings such as Waxoyl need to be sprayed on rust free metal, if you spray it over rusty steel it can just cover up the rust and even make matters worse by trapping moisture behind the coating.

Had mine done within the first 3 weeks of delivery. Planning on keeping mine too.. My 2007 was pretty good but after paying what I did for my SZ5 then want to keep it as good as possible. I had Waxoyl put on/in but was done before car got wet. It was very odd seeing silver frame rails when most cars have plastic inner wheel arches these days.

I got my 2011 Gen 3 done at a local garage with Wayoyl, I think it was around £130 to have the underneath cleaned and Waxoyled. I dropped the car off on Thursday afternoon, they put it in the workshop over-night and I picked it up on Saturday morning, that was to get it warm and let the Waxoyl harden properly afterwards. They did a good job.

I know Dinitrol is more expensive and your specialised probably doesn't do anything else, but for a lot of the time my Jimny would have sat there whilst they got on with servicing someone elses car.

All my vehicles are done with Black Waxoyl and I find it works well for me. It does need a top up every 3 years, but I tend to do it myself, so application is about £25 in materials. I only use the Black Waxoyl as a underbody protector, inside the chassis / doors etc have been done with Dinatrol. You can get it in aerosol cans with a lance which makes it easy to apply. A local garage to me will do a Waxoyl application for about £100 - £120, so a similar figure to DrRobin. I don't go to a garage as I like to be in control of when its applied, ie a totally dry vehicle. Cant see how they can do this if they only have it for a day and don't have an oven to bake it.Your 3 day turn around sounds better.

Yes its worth it if you want to keep the vehicle in my opinion.

That said your price seems expensive by a long way.

Yokohama Geolanders, Sony head unit, NAUTILUS Air Horn, DRL conversion, Rear cargo space, Elvis Bobblehead, transfer Guard, Indian hanging Elephant, Koni Heavy track dampers, Custom SS exhaust, Voodoo Doll, Adventure Rack with LED ight bar, vintage ERIBA caravan usually attached (yes it's slow)

Yes I think it is probably worth it. Trouble is, if you don't do it. By the time you find out you should have. It'll likely be to late.

As for the price. I know that is the sort of money places charge. My brother & I used to offer wax oyling, but we charged about 50% of that. Which was our USP as it wasn't a full time job. Just something on the side.

Not sure how they would take 3 days to do it though. More like 1/2 day to 1 day max. And the latter would be taking bumpers off and things. Which probably isn't really needed.

I did mine myself using Dinitrol aerosol and also injected the chassis rails, also with aerosols. Really only took 2-3 hours I should have thought. If you could find someone such as a local mechanic who would just charge their hourly rate, might be cheaper.

I had mine Dinatrol'd at 2 month old and paid about what you have quoted. If you are planning on keeping long term like me, then it will be worth it. Over 10 years it works out at £85 a year which is not a lot. The place i used local to me also does a free annual inspection and touch up if you have managed to scrape some off. Or had replacement parts. If it delays and rust related by 5 to 10 years then I'll be glad I did it. Only time will tell.

It might be a bit extreme but a body off Raptor respray on the underbody would be around £1000....... If I were considering keeping one and with the way prices might go in the future, it might not be so extreme......

Did mine myself using body shuts, but ofc I have a lift, air compressor and the spray gun for it. Cost around $60usd for product. A lot of elbow grease to get rid of old rust

I'm guessing that's Rochdale Rust Proofing, they quoted me the same price on a Jimny before, I nearly left the place laughing.

I ended up getting it done in a place in Dudley using Krown.

It's a grease/wax that doesn't dry as opposed to a waxol type stuff which kinda fills me full of concerns; I'm afraid of it drying out and rust forming behind it, hidden away and not in sight. In my head, a grease type protection won't dry out and be vulnerable to this form of corrosion.

I paid £240 or so for it. Which seemed good value compared to Dinotrol

I did Dreadnaught on the day of delivery fresh from the dealership. Now 10 years later with annual top ups she is like a 1 year old unprotected version. Vets clean but with just a few little marks that have needed additional intervention.
