Jimny 2001 Automatic Trans issues. was created by moimafu
Hi

I recently bought a 2001 Jimny that came with transmission issues.

I took it to a mechanic and the Scanner show this (attached).

I live on Dominican Republic. I can find any transmission tech to help me.

Can you guys give me a hand here to go the correct way.

Sorry for my english.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. Simplest option first, has the oil and filter been replaced recently? Also other than the codes what are the actual symptoms?

Thank you.

The vehicle doesnt have enought power when I accelerate. I cant get past 70 km/h. Also, it only downshift to first when I completely stop.

I havent replaced the oil or filter yet. Do you recomend me to replace it before continuing the diagnostic?

Yes, oils and filters are cheap and are vital to the correct operating of an auto box.

The engine oil and filter were replace recently. Also the mechanic replaced some sensors. He says that the engine is working well. That the lack of power is transmission issues.

I havent replaced the transmission oil or filter.

Reading on the manual. I did the stall test on the weekend and I only got 1900 rpm.

Hope this info can be helpfull.

Thank you.

I would think that this cannot be an transmission issue only, because the gearbox would get really, really hot. Imagine if 40hps are „burned“ in the transmission this would be a lot!!

Based on this, I would check the temperature of the components of the drive train after a trip on the highway.

Hopefully this can help you to get in the correct direction of the problem.

Was going to replace the fluid today and when I went under the vehicule I saw that some of the transmision wires were damaged. Hope this has something to be with the issue.

Damaged wires won't help so fix those but still change the oil and filter.

Does it change through all the gears ok but just not go very fast?

Does it feel like it won't rev?

I am suspecting a blocked catalytic converter and that there's nothing wrong with the transmission.
