Thanks for the advice and you are right in theory. I had tried a few different mechanics, they were not able to conceptualise the idea of diagnosing an intermittent set of symptoms , in their world of time is money, esp with no check engine light on. With engine management issues this usually means no easy diagnosis and raises the flag for an unwanted job. So they say they havent the time to dig through this. The dealer will go through their flow charts and find zero.
Im happy you got a result with yours. One engine mount was changed out by a mechanic a short while ago. , I don't get a magnified vibration when the engine idles low, it just idles low as it sometimes idles high. When the engine dies it gives the customary slight vibration as the crank and pistons come to a halt. Sometimes the engine just dies eg when stopping at an intersection. Sometimes the tach fluctuates up and down as a surging symptom which sometimes evens out , or engine will stall. All intermittent. Can go well for days , and the usual scenario when presenting it to a mechanic, or auto electrician specialising in engine management, the vehicle is driven a few times in the day giving no symptoms, Car given back, I drive away with tail between my legs. But in saying that, I take on board , how good are my engine mounts?
Ive yet to try the fuel pump swap but will put on some rego , and fuel up the vehicle and drive it and see how it goes. Id have to drive and be symptom free for a couple months before declaring a fix. If symptoms appear I will try and film it with phone video, Im laughing as Ive tried this before fumbling for phones and whatnot and the engine may stall or I have to follow traffic on a green light etc.
Ive resigned to the fact this Jimny was a failed project, I cant sell it as its worth peanuts, so every few months to a year I get an urge to try one more time.

Hi Owl i have year 2000 G13BB jimny same problem it's OBD 1 so scann tools aren't as good as OBD 2 for detecting folts I've been chasing same symptoms I've just replaced the idol air control valve, idols better smoother though the rev range sits on set speed without surging i think mine was weeping coolant into intake it has that rubber seal can be a problem when old could be worth while making gasket as well as the rubber sealOwl wrote: Sounds similar to me although my engine is the G13BB, Ive been banging on about this for about a year now and I cant fix it. Erratic idle, settles down, but reappears intermittent. Sometimes it behaves perfect, sometimes it idles high, sometimes a bit too low. Ive had the vehicle stutter a couple times on highway driving but mostly its ok sitting on 90kms per hr.
Ive replaced most sensors and coils. And no check engine light. What the hell is it?

Drove the car around last night , was raining, and it ran fine. I've got to be symptom free for a month at least to declare a fix, new fuel pump working as it should, Thanks Owl.
