I recently removed my side steps as they weren’t allowing full ground clearance and were scraping when green laning. I saw these things when I removed the step chassis mounts, they are located at the front of the chassis near the doors. What are they and should I cover them up?

They are the mounting bolts for the steps. They are like an oversized rawl bolt getting them out can be a real challenge as they are designed to expand as load is applied to the nut in an outwards direction. I would cover them in waxoyl and forget about them.
