I'm a new member so hello to you all.

I will be collecting my new Jimny next Monday and as I will be keeping her for a (hopefully) a long time I would appreciate any info. on sound proofing kits and corrosion protection both inside and outside.I don't have any info. on what is applied at the factory so details of that would also be appreciated.

Cheers

Roger

Welcome along.

I'm a fan of Hammerite metal paint as I've been applying it every 12-24 months to mine and it seems to keeping mine rust free.

There's all sorts of others that are a bit more modern.

Upon Raptor paint is well spoken of on here. I might try some in the summer.

As far as the sound proofing goes, I would save your time and money. As an old boss of mine used to say, "you can't get there from here".

I started out with nothing & still have most of it left

Welcome to the forum. I have used waxoil under Dreadnaught from day 1 and reapplied every year with good results. If I were starting with an untreated second hand car so long as I thought it was sufficiently clean to spend the effort of deep cleaning the under side back to something like new I would use upol raptor. If however it was not going to be easy to get it to a decent start point I doubt I would bother and instead would save the money towards another Jimny in the future.

"I doubt I would bother and instead would save the money towards another Jimny in the future". There's a comment I fully appreciate, I look older everyday so why shouldn't the car?

Given my proposed indefinite ownership period, that my car is 9 years old but is in as good condition as some at 4 years old makes lots of sense to me. It's been worth the effort.

I've been using Waxoil since 1982 (new SJ410) and like it for the very reason it's not permanent. Out of the way service items are much easier to tackle when you can easily rub off the cack. I'm not endorsing doing nothing, just give some serious thought to what you do. Expensive body treatments do not buy piece of mind, they just transfer your worry elsewhere.

Where did you get it treated @Soeley and how long should it last before checking/re-applying?

Cheers guys, I appreciate your comments. I emailed Suzuki with the question about corrosion resistance and they have replied as follows:-

Thank-you for your recent e-mail to Suzuki Customer Services regarding the Suzuki Jimny.
I have liaised with our Technical Department regarding your query; they have advised me that the current Suzuki Jimny does has a rust proof treatment applied.
Steel sheets are given corrosion resistance on the interior / and or exterior. These corrosion resistance steel sheet materials are called one of two-side galvanized steel sheets.
It is for the sake of rust protection that these materials are selected and given a variety of treatments as described below:
1. Steel sheets are treated with cathodic electro primer which is excellent in corrosion resistance.
2. Rust proof coatings are applied to door and side sill insides where moisture is liable to stay.
3. Vinyl coating is applied to body underside and wheel housing inside.
4. Sealer is applied to door hem, engine compartment steel sheet-to-steel sheet joint, and the like portions to prevent water penetration and resulting in rust occurrence.
I hope this is helpful to you, however if you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us on 08085 011959.

So there you have it, right from the horses mouth. Based on the comments from Suzuki I don't see the need to add anything to what is already there but thanks anyway for your comments.
