Choosing a second hand : age and mileage was created by Some Dude
Hi everybody

I am looking for a second hand Jimny for green laning / off roading.
My budget is around 10 000 € preferably less.
I think I will buy in Germany, since there are more choices and the prices are more reasonable.
But before going any further I am looking for some advice regarding age and mileage for my price point.
I selected 3 examples :

09/2006 / 2 previous owners / 92 000 km / Full service history / AC / 6 999 €
www.automobile.fr/Voiture/Suzuki-Jimny-R...ipcar/293903012.html

03/2010 / 1 previous owner / 89 000 km / Full service history / AC / 8 422 €
www.automobile.fr/Voiture/Suzuki-Jimny-C...ipcar/294209608.html

09/2012 / 1 previous owner / 78 000 km / Full service history / AC / 9 800 €
www.automobile.fr/Voiture/Suzuki-Jimny-1...ipcar/293189478.html

So do I need to spend 10 000 € in this car since I will offroad it / modified it, and thus its resale value will severely decrease ?
Are 6 years, 14 000 km and one less previous owner worth 2 800 € ?
Will it bring me less mechanical trouble and less corrosion in the future ?

Thanks for your advices

Hi and welcome All the above have R72 gear boxes
before 2009 these boxes have weak bearings and fail
there is a kit available to fix the issue on the 2005-09
09 on wards have a sealed bearing installed
Other issues
push button transfer boxes fail too

If you can find a good pre vvt model 1998-2004
these have stronger gear box and leaver transfer
But rust is the killer

Thank you everyone for your welcome messages and your advices

So I will avoid the 2005 2009 models.
I didn’t find that much information on the electric transfer case problem / solution.
The problem seems to be with the wiring :

According to your advice I will choose a post 2010 model, since the pre 2005 models are more likely to suffer from rust problems.

So there’s a good chance it will be something similar to my 2nd example.
The third example (09/2012 / 1 previous owner / 78 000 km / Full service history / AC / 9 800 €) seems a little overkill to transform it into an offroader / overnighter.
And a 8 000 to 8 500 € budget will leave me more resources to buy accessories ...

Welcome along.

I cannot add to the advice but just look for the rust in the boot floor and behind the headlights etc.

Then when you get one, paint and seal the underneath to stop it rusting!
