Evening all, first time Jimny owner - first time post!
I’ve just bought a Jimny, it’s a 2009 in good nick and low mileage (about 50,000).. It was a bit of a steal so I’ve a little money to spend on it, it’s set up as a lamping vehicle and kitted out with off road tyres etc and I’m going to be using it on our shoot instead of a gator and although it’ll be going up muddy tracks and steep hills I probably don’t need to go down the route of lift kits and massive tyres just yet... I’ll be driving it on the road to and from our shoot as well as whilst pottering about to try and keep my usual car a bit tidier.
I’m going to change all of the oils and filters as per the maintenance guide on the wiki so I know they’re done. I’m also going to go over the chassis, clean it up and give it a good coat or two of rust reformer.
Is there anything else you would recommend doing as a sensible precaution whilst I’m in that kind of mood?! I guess I’ll be going about 3,000 miles a year with about half on the road.
Already learnt a lot from this forum, any pearls of wisdom will be gratefully received!
Thanks in advance,

Thanks for your reply, will sanding them back and a couple of coats of rust reformer be enough or would you advise something more substantial?

Probably the best money can buy
www.buzzweld.co.uk/
Start by looking at all body to chassis mounts
Fronts a hidden behind the inner arch cover
remove rear bumper
boot floor
behind and under headlights
the list is a long one do some research on here
Or ask plenty of questions

Thanks, that’s a great site! Some quality of work there.
I think you’re right, there’s no rush to use it so probably getting off as many of the panels as possible and going right over it will be a good start. Just in case there is anything gently rotting away out of sight...
Will have a good rake through the site for any other potential problem areas

Hello and Welcome along.
I would remove any loose underseal and sand back any accessible rust areas. Treat with a rust converter and over paint with a direct to rust paint. Re-apply stone chip to any areas you removed, then wax inside and out, cover everything.
People will have their preferred products for this, as do I, but it's a can of worms as to which is best.
Ours is a 2009 low milage example and pretty good underneath before I did the above , it's worth removing the front bumper and inner arch skirts to the a look at the front body mounts, one side on ours required a welded repair at 10 years old. Now done and dripping in wax.
Have fun.
Mike
Ps I also like buzzweld paint.

Welcome to the forum. I use Dreadnaught in much the same manner as a sensible alternative to a side by side on our upper lowland sheep farm, you will not be disappointed!

Sorry about the long link, never figured out how to do the short one.
Also used on Fiats if you want UK supply, search for Fiat bumper clip.

If you do go for bumper / arch liner removal it's worth getting some clips ready for the odd one that breaks. Cheap as chips so why re-use old faulty ones?
