You don't want to buy something to find it's not very good by it breaking and s shackle flying through your windscreen.

Rated shackles and tree straps are expensive but necessary.

Thanks for that Kirky! Defo want high quality kit, thats important to me. What brands do you like??

There are no particular brands I like as the retailers often don't give a brand name. It's just the fact I buy from a trusted retailer, like Devon 4x4. Their staff do winch challenges themselves and can guide you and seem to be honest.

You need a proper winch rated at 9000lb or more. Therefore you need a proper mount or bumper for it.

Don't bother with hand winches or high lift jacks. They're hard work and very slow going. Not what you want if you get stuck on a long set of ruts at the end of the day, which is usually when you get stuck according to Sods Law!

Cheers Kirky!

Looks like i'll be saving my pennies for.a decent winch then.

No point in me getting good quality recovery gear and not have the same with a winch.

Top notch, thanks for your help mate.

A tow strap with 5m might be much too short. I would go for a much longer tow strap, more like 15m. Usually the car that tows you can easily go a few meters further away but getting closer to your car might be big problem.

Yes mate. I ordered the jimnybits rear tow points and a set of GearAmerica mega shackles.

Jimnybots had them in stock for 1 day before they were sold out again!

ARB are bloody expensive here in Australia!

Oh. I thought it was the shipping that wedged the price up. Interesting.

Lord lambert,

Can you tell me what "ton rating" would be best for a tow strap? Also a snatch strap?

And a winch extention strap please?

Thanks mate.

All my straps are minimum 7.5 tonnes safe working load but my tree saver is something like 30 tonnes swl from memory but it is about 8 inches wide and like 20m long, I think it was previously a crane sling but I bought it new old stock.
