Diff drain plug washer

Hi all,
A few months ago I changed the diff oil in my 2003 Jimny. I recently noticed that there's a slight leak coming from the drain plug. I was unable to find a washer and - if I remember correctly - I read that it was okay to re-use the old one, so that's what I did.

Now it looks like I'm going to have to change the washer, does anyone know where I can get one the correct size? The Big Jimny shop sells them for the filler but not for the drain plug.

Also does anyone have any magic tips for changing the washer with minimal spillage - or am I better off draining it and refilling it? Refilling was a bit of a pain so I'm not looking forward to it.
Many thanks,
Gary

There is no clean and easy way round it I'm afraid. And yes it's better to do it as a change of oil than trying to get the plug out , your finger in the hole, put a washer on with the other hand and then get the plug back in. Just not worth the squeeze.

Mine has a sort of plastic washer thing which I guess I should probably replace with the next oil change?

Even though I have replaced all the fluids I can't for the life of me remember if it had a washer or was a tapered plug???

Still it matters not for on either type I always put a thin smear of blue sealant as gv42, as a back up just in case, always worked for me. Blue hylomar is my preferred stuff, with this method my 1960 series 2 is still on the original axle plugs and does not leak. -. Well the axle plugs don't, pours out of ever other orifice.

Ok then what is the plastic washer thing round the edge of my drain for then, it fits close into the protective boss on the axle and has evidently been there from new?

It doesn't matter it's not mine that is leaking. If I think on next time I change the oil I'll have a picture of it but I'm not making a mess on purpose.

Thanks all for your responses.

Mine definitely had a washer on it, so if that shouldn't be there then maybe that's what's causing the leak. I have some blue hylomar so I'll put some of that on the drain plug when I get around to sorting it out. Thanks again.
