Lift kit?? was created by Olliecarr25
Hi there I have a 2002 jimny and have been taking it green laning and now want to improve its capabilities off road and not sure on the best ways to do this without making my insurance go up too much as it’s already high as I am only 17. Dose anyone no if a lift kit affects Insurance a lot or am I just better off getting mud tyres for it as I only have all-terrain tires at the moment thanks in advance.

I agree with the others that getting a quote is a good idea . Even at 17 though I can't see why the insurance would object too much to a set of mud tyres, especially if you got a set of standard size marked remoulded ones as they are going to be a bit taller than what they say on the sidewall and give you a little more clearance.

My son had a Jimny at 17 when he passed his test.

At that time (6 years ago)

1. Modification insurance companies needed you to have held a licence for 2 years before insuring you (Adrian Flux/NFU)

2. The only way to get remotely affordable insurance was to go with a Tracker Box insurance company, they would not insure modifications.

However, a read of the Suzuki handbook for the specific model of Jimny we bought, we noted that they only specified the size of tyre and not the brand or tread pattern.

Therefore we fitted 205/70R15 Mud tyres as these match the suzuki sizing

Inform insurance ?

If so a lot of pain for not much gain.

As the manual for a Gen4 doesn't list them as an approved size then I would offer the opinion that yes, they are a modification

You have to tell them even if you have changed the radio!!
Last time I contacted them to add my daughter as a named driver they wouldn't until she was 21 :(

Its fair to say we have never had even a minor flinch from Insurance companies when mentioning tyres

Phoned insurance, not a problem. They just added a note on my policy, tyre size changed.

Yes, I believe so - I fitted 235/75/15 to my 1999 Jimny and it JUST fit without a lift (be a bit touch and go if articulating) but I would think 205/70/15 would be a good fit on stock, and no worries on lifted.
