Please help! was created by Basketcase
I’ve had enough of my jimny now it’s been running rough for a little while..changed the spark plugs to some Bosch fancy things with 4 contacts at the end as I’ve been told they’re better, it’s the g13 engine though. Cut a long story short, plugged it into a snap on computer and it had 2 historic faults inlet air temp voltage too low and a throttle pos sensor voltage too high...cleared those and now it’s REALLY struggling to even just stay running never mind drive! Does anyone have any ideas? The computer said the egr valve was operating at 18% at 1 point when it was connected whilst being revved up then let off several times...could that cause the issue? Would it likely be a coil pack or crank sensor or something daft? I don’t have any money atm or for a few month to just go and get random parts( even 2nd hand) to put on to see if it works or I’d happily throw new everything in it! Any ideas or comments or we’ll just anything would be great....the more helpful the better though please guys. Cheers

Sorry to hear your Jimny is poorly. For the cost of a tin of carb clean it's got to be worth take the egr valve off and seeing if it is gunged up. It will also do no harm to unplug and re plug the other sensors to eliminate a bad connection and generally inspect the condition of them. Beyond that it's going to start costing actual money. Unless someone is local to you and prepared to swap parts over to enable the defect to be isolated, anyone?

I think Lambert has suggested the best route. It's usually an electrical issue, so methodically checking all connections are clean and giving all accessable parts (egr / Iac ) valves a clean, check air filters clean etc.
After this it's new parts or swapping time.
May help with an indication of your location for those that don't know ( like me) , just in case they have any swapping parts available to help you.

I'd agree with what these two chaps suggest, and try disconnecting / reconnecting sensors - sometimes the contacts on the plugs can become corroded, the mere action of pullng them apart and pushing them back together is enough to make the contact good again.
However I would do that several times on each connector, then do it again with some electrical contact spray such as WD40 SPECIALIST SPRAY just to get any corrosion/dirt or moisture out
Clutching at straws, but also try disconnecting the positive terminal on the battery and wait for 20 mins or more before reconnecting. It might reset something.
Check all earthing straps are properly sound and not corroded
Anyone near St Helens that can offer help?

I’m in St. Helens I can use the parts wash at work to wash the egr valve but I’m not experienced enough at fault finding to know what bits are wrong or giving the incorrect signal/voltages etc I’ve disconnected a couple of the sensor wires and reconnected those but I’ll try with some electrical cleaner from work later I only use it 2/3 times a week to get to work as my mrs uses the other car to pick the little ones up from nursery...how do I get the egr valve off the engine? I’m right in thinking it’s at the back where the bulk head is? The little part that’s black which could possibly be described as Lego block looking on top? Very untechnical I know but I’ve never had one off, I just do services and brakes haha

Clean the IACV while you're in cleaning mode.

Yeah, nah that is not normal. There shouldn't be any of the burned carbon particles.

Not sure if this will help or not, but someone told me that some CATs respond to a thorough (internal!) pressure-washing
....Could give that a try
(obviously remove it from the vehicle first! }

I’ve not managed to try removing the cat yet but did get a video of it running and cutting out the only sensor on the intake I’ve not changed is the map sensor..took out the thermostat as that was knackered after boil test..other than cat any other ideas? The exhaust does seem to be putting out more smoke/fumes than usual and smells Rich.. also how do I post a video?!?
