Ordered a Gen 4 SZ5 Auto in white from my local dealer in April this year. £200 refundable deposit and a handwritten receipt. Was told that it was not possible to guarantee a delivery time but should be Sept/Oct 2019.
Have not heard from them since.
I rang yesterday for an update.
They have no idea when the car will land and the salesman “quietly” suggested that it would not be this year ie. 2019
He also said that they are now not able to order an Jimny’s at the moment.
(I’m still not convinced that a factory order went in for mine. Think they were hoping to find one for me from Group allocation).
Anyone had a similar experience?
Anyone know if I am wasting my time waiting for a Jimny and should choose something else?
My current car PCP deal runs until Feb 2020
Cheers
Rick

They definitely didn't place a factory order, no dealers are able to due to the low supply. Each dealer gets an allocation of X number cars (1-4 I believe, depending on dealer size) per quarter, they don't get to specify colour, trim or gearbox. Each dealer can choose how they want to handle the allocation, although typically most seem to be offering cars according to when people expressed an interest. If person #1 on the list doesn't want it, they offer it to the next person.
You can either do the leg work, contacting as many dealers as possible to try and get the exact spec you want, or wait with your current dealer and accept a car when you get offered one.

I wish they had explained it to me like that when I “ordered” back in April.

Did they manage to match your exact spec choice?

Wow, wish I could find an extra £30k down the back of the sofa whenever my patience runs out!
