There's been a few people recently having boxes rebuilt and they seem to be paying between about 4 and 7 hundred quid depending on where they are and if they have removed the box themselves or not.

Mine is up at 135k miles (I bought it at 99k), '06, VVT, manual. Engine runs strong, bit tickity, planning to look at the valve clearance next service (any time this month).

Gearbox I think is needing work soon, have had a leak at the rear propshaft, seal has been replaced twice & propshaft is in good condition, the seals last a few week then begin to leak again, which makes me think there is play in the output shaft, indicating the shaft bearing is on it's way out.

Ive been offered an 05 plate cat C repared
And although its C im pretty sure it should have been D, it was very light damage to the drivers side front corner.. its 41,000 and its pretty much never failed an MOT from the records online which also confirms mileage, it drives very very nice apart from the clutch being high and no service records at all..
The guy bought it damaged and has had it 4 years and done over half the 41,000, ( i think he said it was on 19,000 when he got it )
it has 5 brand new 195 80 15 hankook dynapro tyres
Underneath from my inspection is by far the cleanest ive seen in all the usual places
Its £2300

The high clutch biting point is easily adjusted underneath with just a pair of grips. Where the clutch cable enters the bellhousing there is a black plastic nut. give that a few turns and it will sort the biting point position out easily enough. If the clutch isnt slipping then its just adjustment. If it looks to have been adjusted already then maybe factor in a clutch change in the next year or two (circa £200 all in).

I wouldnt worry about it being a cat c from the description. Sounds like an ideal car.

Thanks,, I'm happy you agree and yeah that's my exact thoughts on the clutch, it has been adjusted before.. after backing the plastic nut off do i wind the thread outwards to lower the bite on the peddle, as i did notice the cable end block is touching the gearbox and defo won't adjust the other way..

the nut stays still and the threaded bit goes in and out. More thread in = lower biting point on the pedal travel (or pedal has to be pushed further before anything happens).

approx 4" of thread there so plenty of adjustment options. If it helps, think of it as a bigger version of the adjuster on a bicycle brake lever. works in exactly the same way.

So is this the newer sealed type bearings
September 2008 should be the newer..?
And when looking at any is this the most obvious way to tell....?

Jimnys gen3 made between 2008-2018 (factory "type 7" and newer), the 4WD controller allows shifting "directly" from 2WD-H to 4WD-L and vice versa.
Actually, it does not shift directly - the same process of going through 4WD-H mode happens, just automatically by the 4WD controller instead by the operator.

It's a manufacturing adjustment that was carried out in 2009 without any further revisions to the gearbox. There's no immediately obvious visual identifier.
