2 ton would be fine for the Jimny from a weight perspective, you also need to factor in the closed height and max lift height to make sure it will fit under the jacking points and lift it high enough.
Just checked mine and front jacking point is 210mm from the ground, rear about 250mm, so although the Halfords 2T would fit fine, you'd only get about 46mm lift on the rears (excluding the extra from having the screw extension on top).
I'll probably go for something from Machine Mart and a bit larger so that it's usable on other cars if needed. The Clarke 5T is only £20, fits under the jacking points and goes up to 355mm, so plenty of clearance.
This is exactly why i enjoy the forum. Learn something new each day. Seems an obvious one, but this has helped a lot.
I thank you Gadget.

They are telescopic and the top has a curved saddle that locates on the axle tube or radius arms more suitably than a flat round pad. The footprint also locates in a hi lift spreader pad too to improve things further.
Great advice, thanks. I just cranked the car up on my trolley jack and you'll need a jack that can lift to at least 320mm to be able to remove the rear wheels, so a telescopic bottle might be a good idea.

Lambert wrote: Genuine question, are you not worried stiff about all these things getting stolen?
In short.... YES. But to be fair, the black tints and my hidden luggage boxes reveal nothing visualy to outside prowlers.
But yeah.....as with most things of value, i do worry. Dont put my night goggles in the car though, that would be very silly, as opposed to a bit silly.

My main storage is hidden in the rear footwell, between the seats and the ply floor. I have a recovery tool bag with an adjustable spanner, pliers, screwdrivers, shackles and two tow ropes. I also have a spade, an AA breakdown kit, jump leads, duct tape, zip ties, 2L drinking water and the factory jack. A lot of stuff fits in that space, and it's all out of view.
2004 Jimny Mode: General Grabber AT3s (215/75/R15); Trailmaster 2" Lift; Jimnybits Snorkel; Jimnybits Front and Rear Recovery Points; Suntop Roof Rack; AVM Manual Hubs; Stainless Steel Exhaust System (SOLD)
